How do I get the spanish characters for:
accent marks,
tilde,
question marks,
etc?
I thought I had seen something posted about this, but my search didn't find anything.

I use "popchar", a little software program that pops up when I need it and I just select the latin character I want.
It can also be done by switching to Spanish if you're using Windows XP. You can set your computer up so you can toggle between two languages. You
will need a "keyboard map" to figure out where the symbols are. Free keyboard maps can be found on the web by googling "keyboard maps".
That was the way I did it until I ran across the "PopChar" software.

With Windows ME I just go to Programs > Accessories > System tools > Character Map. Type up and print or jot down by hand the 10 or so marks
you think you need, keep them on or near your keyboard or monitor -- just press Alt and the character number when you need to do a Spanish word.
? is Alt 0225 on this program (por ejemplo)

The info given by Natalie Ann is correct, except the number lock must be on and the numbers used are NOT the 1 - 0 at the top of the keyboard, but the
keypad (or those numbers engaged with the NUM LK key).
? ? will appear AFTER you release the ALT 160 or ALT 168, etc. Just use a short list as a cheatsheat, engage the NUM LK (should light up a
indicator), hit ALT and the respective number on the keypad (at the SAME time) as listed by Natalie Ann, when released the character will appear. No
new software, its already there.

Also if you're using a laptop, the number key thing might not work. I use the Spanish keyboard toggle thing as there's only a couple I use all the
time so can remember them.

I guess it depends on the laptop...I'm using a Dell Laptop now...I can get a degree with ALT 167 too (?). The num lk numbers are on the letter keys
on this laptop. There are many mathematical and geometry symbols on the keyboard available with the Num Lk, ALT, and a number from the keypad/num lk
numbers.

I toggle with the Windows keyboard setup. If you google on Spanish keyboard decals, there are a variety of companies selling little decals you can
stick on your keys so you don't have to remeber that ? is on the semi-colon and the upside down cuestion mark is across from the dash etc.

You don't need all those extra Alt steps. They're a royal pain if you're doing any volume at all. Just set up an alternate keyboard in windows, get
a set of decals (stickers) for the appropriate keys (you won't need the whole set, most are the same letters), toggle back and forth and type away.

BTW, "Spanish" is capitalized in English. En espa?ol, no.

Mine differs just slightly. I'm using "modern sort". I never use the Alt. I just hit the accent (or dierisis) key and then the vowel- 2 strokes-
for the dead key function. The one I always screw up is the quotation marks. I'm so used to where they are in English, I keep forgetting they're
over the 2 in my Spanish keyboard version.

Where did you get the decals for the Modern sort keyboard?
I've got my keyboard on a toggle to shift from english to spanish, but have to keep a "cheat sheet' that I created close by to remind me of where the
keys are.

That's the very reason I "toggle" between the english and spanish versions of the qwerty keyboard on my laptop. I have a little box on the right side
of the taskbar that I click when I want to switch between EN (english) and ES (spanish). It's a built-in function of XP.
Of course, because I'm a touch-typist, it makes for some interesting sentences when I forget which language the keyboard is in.
OSO, I found (and ordered) the decals, they are on that "datacal" website. For people using XP, the one you want is the "Latin American Keyboard
Layout". Cost is $12.95
