Ferry there or back?

chickensoup - 2-23-2006 at 01:58 PM

I'm driving to Puerto Vallarta in May and want to do Baja one way. Are there any opinions on whether I should take the ferry on the way down or the way back? I guess my real question is: Is it more of a hassle to pick up the ferry in La Paz or Mazatlan?

Thanks.

Haven't gone either way, but here are some websites with info

It is 'less hectic' taking the ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan than vice versa, but I would rather have the memory of drivng back through Baja fresher on my mind than the mainland trip. Just my opinion and wish you bien viaje.

I can't imagin a good reason for ever using the Mazatlan ferry...I mean 14 hours on the "urin bucket" as it is known because of the toilet situation. The new and huge La Paz-Topolobampo ferry, just six hours (with dinner included) is clean and less expensive. We take a private cabin ($50USD) and arrive fresh, showered to La Paz for the 8AM arrival. Going over no cabin is needed as it gets in at 9PM

Egads, it has been quite a while since we took that Mazatlan-LaPaz ferry ride. But when we did, it was a super cruise with a large stateroom and private head..no smells, thank Neptune! We booked a pickup, boat w/trailer and a sportscar as below decks cargo...with our stateroom it was about $50 too...but I think it was in 1979!!
