SAN DIEGO ? A Nevada fugitive profiled on the Oprah Winfrey TV show who was being sought on suspicion of lewd acts on a small boy was seized Wednesday
in Baja California, the FBI announced.
Mexican authorities arrested William George Barney in Ensenada and turned him over to U.S. law enforcement officials Wednesday afternoon, said Dan
Dzwilewski, FBI special agent-in-charge in San Diego.
Barney, 55, had been sought on suspicion of committing lewd acts on a 12-year-old child in Las Vegas over a six-year span beginning in 1994. Anonymous
tips, some of them in response to the TV show, helped track Barney to San Diego and eventually to Ensenada.
Barney, a convicted sex offender, is expected to be extradited to Nevada.
