Try Marina Terra, right on the Marina, old but going thru remodel. Several good rest. within walking distance. They have a website, but don'thave it handy

The San Carlos Plaza is the most high end. It is right on the beach at Bahia Algodones. It is 4-5 miles outside the center of town.

Marina Terra is very nice. There are rooms overlooking the marina, which is a very nice view. It is typically a good bit less than the San Carlos Plaza. Plus it is within easy walking distance to the town. Make sure you ask them for their best rate. Three times they have quoted me substantially more on the first quote. It use to be about $90 for a marina view room, and maybe $60-70 for street view.

Check out this site for hotel info: http://www.sancarlosmexico.com/forum.htm. Look on the left side of the page for the hotel link. You can book on line.

Here is the view from Marina Terra.

hey JZ or anyone....whatever happened to the old Posada on the beach, with the high rise tower.
was good years ago, used to base dive trips there.

Is the old Playa de Cortez still there and running? Not quite in San Carlos, though. More like Guaymas, I think, but on the water and old-time classy..at least it was a while back!

Jorge....I stayed there in 1979 and had a good time ..so did the skirt.

Best Western - Hacienda TetaKawi, $60 US last week with a LAN Internet connection. Tel. (622) 226 0220.

The Plaza has had a promotion for the past couple of months. A room for 3 nights for $50 US if you will sit through a time share promotion spiel. Walk past the desk in the lobby to a kiosk in the center to sign up.

I stayed at the Plaza las Glorias, which is now the Marina Terra. Can't beat it with a stick in terms of boat-friendly. Wake up in the morning, walk to the slip, and off you go. Fuel dock is right there too. They have (had?) a nice beach on the point down the street, and plenty of parking. I would recommend it.

And, oh yeah, it's skirt-friendly. There's a pool, and the above-mentioned beach within walking distance, and places to go easily while you are off on the water.

Pompano: I was in SC/Guaymas last week and could have sworn I saw the Playa de Cortez! But it was off the main drag, not on the beach.

Playa de Cortez is near Guaymas in the area called Miramar. The grand hotel and the beaches are still there.

There is a shortcut from San Carlos to Guaymas that is almost finished.

The La Posada is still there in San Carlos. A little run down but still open I think.

It is finished now. A very nice drive along the coast. They are building an aquarium off the road.
