Villegas, 38, Believed To Be In Mexico

March 14, 2006

SAN DIEGO -- A pregnant 14-year-old San Marcos girl was reunited with her family Monday night after she was found in Tijuana.

Ivonne Cuenca, who is six months pregnant, called her family Monday night to tell them she had been left in Tijuana and had made her way to her grandfather's house.

The girl's father then crossed the border to bring the girl home.

"She was happy when we saw her," said the girl's father, Melquiades Cuenca.

Meeting with reporters at a restaurant Tuesday morning, Cuenca offered his thanks to police, consulate personnel and journalists who helped find his daughter.

Ivonne Cuenca disappeared with Francisco "Paco" Villegas, 38, believed to be the father of her baby, a week ago.

On Friday, sheriff's deputies got an arrest warrant for Villegas for alleged child molestation and child abduction.

"Our investigation indicates that this sexual activity occurred before she was 14 years old. Of course, this Mr. Villegas is nearly a middle-aged man and this child was likely manipulated into committing those acts with him," said Sgt. James Bovet.

Villegas, who has worked as a clown at children's parties and swap meets, is Latino, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. He has brown eyes and short, wavy brown hair. He sometimes wears a goatee.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts was urged to call (858) 974-2310.

Kidnapped? I doubt it. 38 year-old men don't kidnap 14 year-old pregnant girls. They run.

SAN MARCOS ? Sheriff's deputies yesterday arrested a man suspected of having molested and kidnapped a 14-year-old girl, who later was found in Tijuana.

The girl was returned to her parents after the March 7 kidnapping, but the suspect evaded capture, said Sgt. James Bovet of the sheriff's child abuse unit.

An anonymous tip led deputies to a home on Richmar Avenue yesterday, where Francisco Villegas, 38, was taken into custody without a struggle shortly before 10 a.m., Bovet said.

Villegas was jailed on suspicion of child abduction and committing a lewd act on a minor. Bail was set at $100,000.

Bovet did not release any details about how Villegas and the girl met or how long she was missing.
