Bob H - 3-16-2006 at 08:46 PM

This is a very strange thread. You go to places where you can get what you need at reasonable prices.... period.

You mean shop at Wall Mart, COSTCO and Home Depot in Mexico?

They ain't building these stores down here exclusively for gringos. ;)

The're building them so's Mexicans won't cross the border to shop at the same stores in the States.

Maybe you need to ask yourself...Why?

(Then go flip yourself the bone.)

Bruce R Leech - 3-17-2006 at 08:13 AM

thanks for the report Hose A.

glad I wasn't there for the opening

Dave's point

DanO - 3-17-2006 at 04:37 PM

I have to agree. One of the reasons that Mexicans and gringos go stateside for construction materials is that the stuff available until south of the border (lumber, in particular) is often either inferior or way overpriced, or both. A builder I know who gets his materials in Ensenada thinks that the advent of Costco and Home Depot will improve the market down there, by encouraging other local providers to sell higher quality materials and to quit price gouging. His point: Why pay too much for substandard materials when you don't have to?

On the other hand, if I find someone who sells high quality materials that originate in Mexico for a reasonable price (Lomeli tile is a good example), I'll shop there every time. That serves my needs and contributes to the local economy as well.
