driving from San Diego to Bay of LA

My daughter and I are planning on driving from San Diego to BOLA in her 1997 Civic Honda within the next week. What is the approximate driving time? Any problems with the Honda on the dirt road portion? We;'re planning on camping at Camp Gecko. Best spot? We're wanting to do some snorkelling, and desert hiking. Thanks for any help. Larry

About ten hours of driving time would be about average. The road is paved all the way with a few rough spots the last 20 kilometers into Bahia de Los Angeles.

Gecko's is four miles south of the village, over a wide and occasionally graded dirt road. Your Civic should have no problem.

Many of us on this board stay at Camp Gecko. You can visit their website at http://www.campgecko.com

They have everything from beachfront camping to a variety of rustic cabins and two 2-story houses. They do not have electricity. I would suggest you make reservations as they are often full.

Have a good trip and write a report for us when you get back.

A drive that can be done with ease if you leave early and have your "ducks in a row" regarding tourist visa etc. Camp Gecko is my personal favorite, although their are other options as well. I don't think you will have any problems in the Civic. Regards and have a great Father/Daughter time!

Make sure spare tire is in good condition. The potholes come up quickly!

Have Fun!

Thanks for all the advice. I've got to put some repairs into my old '95 Cavalier, but I think it'll make it.

Any advice on where the best snorkeling is between Muleg? and Loreto?

Bahia Concepcion... besides it's the only shoreline you will drive near, between Mulege and Loreto, as Hwy. 1 is otherwise not near the water...
