Thinking of driving to Cabo (one way) about Friday 3/31. Any input from you pro's regarding rooms along the way? Since this may be Easter Break for a
lot I was wondering if the break travelers eat up all the rooms?

Another recommended stay would be in San Ignacio at Ignacio Springs Bed & Breakfast http://www.ignaciosprings.com
Bahia de los Angeles is an excellent 41 paved side trip and the Costa del Sol or Raquel & Larry's motels are recommended there.
If you take your time, you may see that Baja has a lot more to offer than Cabo!

Cross the border real early like 5-6 AM, shoot down to GN. stay at the Mallarimo (sp?), down the main drag as you enter town and on the right, good
dinner also.
As you can tell I am not a big fan of the Northern half of Baja
leave GN early and have breakfast at international rice and beans in San Ignacio.
Relax on the rest of the trip and take your time.

You should be ahead of Semana Santa and the spring breakers will be at the big resort towns. I would worry more about finding accomodations at the
end of your trip rather than along the way.

What do you have against Cabo...which BTW is either San Jose del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas or Los Cabos.
There is still plenty of Baja left here!

Thanks for the info. Have a Condo in Cabo, just taking the car down to leave. Have never driven down and not looking forward to it. The plane is
much safer and quicker.

Cabo is Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos is both towns and in between, at least that was my thinking...
It isn't that I am so against Cabo, it is that so many think Cabo IS Baja... and it is about as un-Baja as any town on the peninsula can get, IMHO.
So, when I read of people heading straight to Cabo (like a moth to a flame), I want them to know there sure is a heck of a LOT more to Baja!

Durango - We used to do the drive 3/4/6 times annually -- for us it was a drive to our destination, not a drive of leisure .. we do not drive anymore
tho so hard to say if our recommendations are still current ..
We would stay the night in Chula Vista, at any of your preferred chain-types (HInn, Embassay, Hilton etc) and found it makes things easier for an
early start & border crossing.
Spend first night in GN - we have always stayed at Malarrimo. Have seen a few threads discussing where to stay/not stay in GN...
We would stay in Loreto at a place called Hacienda Suites de Loreto - next door to the landmark spot El Nido. haciendasuites.com Secure enclosed
parking, a/c, hot showers, clean.
Next day arrive safely in Cabo around 3pm.
Fred's board has an excellent page on Places of Interest which includes places to stay, gas locations, restaurants and other useful tidbits.

Durango, dont try to beat the road to get anywhere in a hurry. While everyone has their favorite places to stay along the way the important thing is
to get there in one piece. You will find a place to stay.

i have driven it only once.......2001 hauling a 34' TT......mainly BORRRRRING....and i am no expert as a ground ponder, frankly hope never to have to
drive HW1 again unless it's on a MC!
do this, start early at tecate if you can and enjoy the Guadalupe valle in the morning. or Ensenada if you can make it there the eve before.
beat cheeks all the way to GN and relax at the Malarrimo by late afternoon if you haul ass. Skip El Rosario (except for gas) and San Quintin unless
you like gloomy clouds or fog. and a lot of trashy businesses along the drag.
breakfast at San Ignacio can hold you till Loreto then guage your time, Constitucion may be a stop for the night if you can't make la paz.
i know folks who run TJ to mulege no problem in 12 hours and can get to the cape on day 2 or either way if reversed. if the destination is what
matters you can save time and $$ bypassing the scenic stops like BOLA, nice i guess but it's 80 miles out of your way R/T back to HW1.
Loreto to la paz is a whole lot of nuttin -------that's one guy's opinion, and really, who gives a flip anyway??!!
