we drove down end of Feb to SanIgnacio dog it to town at dark and didn't want to drive out to Kuyima in the dark
We stayeds in a room at a reaturant its on the right just after you trun off mex.1 to go in to town. Room was 12 US and dinner was for 2 $28 us in the morning we had breakfest the drove into town stopped at the tortilla factory
Bought 2 dozen bought some bottled watter from the store across the stree the off we went
The road was a bad at the begining but as you got out of town it turned into one of those Baja dirt roads
We were in a Toyota Tacoima 4x4 upgraded tires . we drove 50mph + out to Kuyimas
we went out whale watching aroung 3:00pm it was windy lots of whales and calvs We had three whales mating doing a threesome right in front of us aboout 100meters away we sat and watched for awhile then one of the males rolled over on its back and flopped his "DORK" up on his belly and layed there sunning hemself for five minutes he then went back to the orgy after another 20-30 minutes a male rolled up to the serface onhis back layed there for 5 minutes with his Dork out of the water flopping aroung
Well I am sad to say that when this all started the batteries on my camera went dead no one else one the panga had AA batteries
The vision will be burrned in to mine and my wifes memorys for ever. somehow I know I'll measure up after that
We did get some pictures earlyer her is one

Sounds like you had a nice trip and your description is a little hard to read, but I figured it out. Please describe what a DORK is? I've never heard of that.

I think Pomps' whale is a whale shark. Whale of a shark thingy, though.

Dork

BajaDanD - 3-29-2006 at 07:19 PM

The other people on the boat were from Switzerland and Argentina the couple from Argentina were too imbarassed(sp) to take photos and the two Guys from Switzerland said they had no e-mail address. I tried
I will describe it for ya.
6ft long at least more then a foot in diameter and Pink/white. No I am not making this up
The reason for two males is so one can hold her while the other climbs on top not sure if both males got a turn or if one was just assisting.

just thought I'd add my 2 centavos worth on the "pink floyd"...as a gray whale researcher I thought you'd like to know they can be 12'long and 3' at the base and yeah they seem to like company while they are "in the mood" Get this...on my birthday a couple weeks ago, an amorous trio made whoopie right in front of my home in bahia asuncion for over half an hour...what a nice present I thought...lots of tail indeed and I glimpsed the dork twice too.....glad you had fun too...

Tomas Tierra - 3-29-2006 at 09:36 PM

Shari...
Since you research these creatures I have a question for you...
The one time I got a good close up of the gray whale dork at San Ig. ,it seemed like it was sort of girating or spinning at the tip. Almost like a cork screw..
(I'm not joking!) Was I seeing things??

Dork

BajaDanD - 3-30-2006 at 12:25 AM

The one we saw was flopping around even though the whale was just lying there on its back not moving. at the base it was quite a bit larger then the rest. There were other whales hanging around watching, then moving on. They seemed like they were checking to see if their assistence was needed. Then they would move off. A lot of whales came by to investigate.
