Recently in a chat with comitan the subject of Ciruelas del Mogote came up, he practicaly lives at El Mogote and did not know what they were.
Por mi madre that I will give a case of Tijuana Beer to whoever sais what they are and what the saying is.
Oso, if you answer this one I will have to rent a truck to take all of your winnings to Yuma.
You La Paz people should know, lencho? lera? Aldo?

fdt...I cannot accept. I just looked it up in one of my Baja books. I really didn't know the answer, although I know the Spanish word for plums... they have been a favorite of mine since childhood. We have lots of wild plums trees Up North, too.

El Mogote has always been a place of myth, fabule and folklore for pace?os. It`s said that if a visitor eats the ciruelas of El Mogote they will never be able to leave la Paz and if they do they will return. It has been a place of refuge for Pace?os and Mexicans where they could take their families and camp in nature and natural beauty. Generations have done this for centuries now.

Besides, only Germans know how to make beer.

We have the wild plum trees here in Comitan, when the snow birds go north is about when they get ripe, the Mexicans always come though and ask if they can pick them, they don't apeal to my taste.

His name was Fernando, they were 3 brothers that used to roam the streets of La Paz, a trio of drunks, brothers, they were known as Los Chuniques.
Good thing Oso did'nt answer any of these, I would have had to rent a u-haul. If there was a franchise in M?xico would it be Tu-lojalas?

Actually I thought "plums" was too obvious and there had to be a local story. I'm not that familiar with El Mogote.

About Pyramid Hefeweizen (I've always pronounced it Hefenweizen.)

It seems that in the last ten years or so Pyramid has reformulated Pyramid Hefeweizen a couple of times, and now I don't think it is nearly as good. I liked it better when it first came out when they had the residue on the bottom of the bottle which made the brew cloudy and added a slight non-hoppy bitterness, or maybe it was a graininess; it's hard to put my finger on it (I remember the label touting "clouds of swirling yeast."). Then later, the residue was caked on the bottom, and it wouldn't cloud up the ale which was not as good (you could stir it up with a straw or something like that, but it fizzed up the ale too much and made floating chunks. Now it is clear - even more clear that some pale ales. They also added a lemon taste to it for a while which I really didn't like. At least they have toned down the lemon taste as of late.
