Fuel prices for April 2006.

BajaCactus - 4-1-2006 at 07:36 PM

Hi everyone, these are the fuel prices for the current month (only after 20km south of border with the US):

Magna.............$ 6.27 pesos per liter
Premium..........$ 7.40 pesos per liter
Diesel..............$ 5.15 pesos per liter

These prices are in liters, and 1 gallon = 3.7854 liters.

Today (April 1st) 1 dollar = $ 10.50 pesos (+/-)

Using the previous information, this is what we have....

Magna............$ 2.260 dollars per gallon
Premium.........$ 2.667 dollars per gallon
Diesel.............$ 1.856 dollars per gallon

Remember that the fuel prices 20 km along the US border are being locally equaled to those in the States, therefore, they are higher than further in Baja.

Happy travels my friends...

Seems the 20KM rule does not apply in Tecate - I just purchased 533.42 liters of Diesel in town at the MN 5.15 price. I wonder what the exact rules for that are.

Also, I THINK I got some new pumps. These would shut down automatically if you stopped pumping for a period of time - and produced a computerized receipt (actually two, since it stopped once). Is this part of the equipment "revamping" Antonio? And who is paying for the upgrades (PEMEX, the franchisees?)

bajalou - 4-1-2006 at 08:00 PM

I often purchase diesel in Mexicali and it is priced the same as further south. I think it's only the Magna that meets US prices. (and posibly the premium)

Magna is over 7 pesos a liter in Mexicali.

For those driving south, in No. San Diego County regular is $2.619 or higher at Arco or Costco... $2.75+ at most company stations along I-5.

GeoRock - 4-3-2006 at 12:05 PM

Wow! That is cheap!

I pay $2.97 in Mammoth Lakes.
In Maui last week it was $3.17.
Both prices for regular.

Expect the price of gas in the USA to go up about 10 cents this month

That makes sense. Awhile back, gas was actually cheaper in the states and Pemex became aware that many Fronterizos were crossing over to fill up on the U.S. side. So, they "equalized" the price along the border to discourage this. Since Mexicans are forbidden to own private non-commercial diesel vehicles, no significant problem existed regarding diesel, so no change occurred. Today, the price of Magna throughout the republic is less than unleaded in the U.S., But Pemex finds no compelling reason to lower the border prices to the national level as long as they can get a price "equal" to the cross border competition. Logical thievery, as it were.

David K - 4-3-2006 at 09:26 PM

Looks like the cheapest today is up to $2.679 in San Diego area... but plentiful and dispenced from accurate pumps.

I could sure use....

neilm - 4-4-2006 at 11:12 AM

...a barrel or two of that $1.85 diesel.... $2.89+ here

Wonder if I could get it across the border?

Neil

Rules...

BajaCactus - 4-4-2006 at 06:27 PM

Every gas station 20km south of the border has an equal price to those in the States... only Magna and Premium are affected... not diesel.

Now, every weekend a "special" and "local" comission looks around at the prices at the US and, depending on this survey, prices may or may not be moved on tuesdays.

Right now, in Tijuana Magna is 7.91 pesos a liter and Premium is 8.40 pesos.

This is a huge difference to those inland.

Regarding pumps shutting down, there is an implementation order by Profeco every pump must have... and this is that if the fuel is not dispensed for more than 30 seconds, the dispenser must shut down and be reprogrammed again... this is called "anti-theft" implementation... and it is supossed to protect the customer.

And about the new upgrades.... jajajaja.... I wish Pemex would even lend the money.... EVERYTHING has to be paid by the owner of the gas station.

Everyone is very angry now, because Pemex just sent out a memo informing every gas station in the country that we now have to change all the dispensers for a special one they want now... each one costs roughly $16,000 dlls.

I do not know yet if this will proceed, but for now the order stands.

$16,000/pump? Wow! I don't see how you guys make it down there - or, you must make a lot more money than one would think!

David K - 4-4-2006 at 11:32 PM

Antonio works to death running several businesses so he doesn't have to rob customers to make ends meet like so many other Pemex owners seem to need to do.

Timbercrete - 4-5-2006 at 06:03 AM

The heavy cost of making the pumps legal is minor compared to the dollars gained by years of ripping off people. If they had beed honest all along, this would not be happening.

Ken Cooke - 4-5-2006 at 10:36 PM

Both times this weekend I filled up in Mexicali, I was charged a rate of 10:$1 when the posted rate was actually 10.60:$1. There's no way I would pay the "Gringo" price, and I recalculated the amount and payed the appropriate amount...

bajalou - 4-6-2006 at 08:07 AM

If you'd filled up in San Felipe the cost would have been less, almost a peso a liter.

David K - 4-6-2006 at 11:20 PM

$2.719 in Oceanside today at a Thrifty's, Coast Hwy. exit/ I-5. That's the lowest I have seen around here.

David K - 4-12-2006 at 08:42 PM

I might as well continue this because many of you are not from Southern California and will be passing through San Diego County...

Today (4-12), the lowest prices around here are about $2.779 (ARCO) and up. I saw $2.939 for regular at another station.

Dave - 4-12-2006 at 08:56 PM

I filled up at the cantamar pemex today. The price was 6.59 lt (magna). The station is 46 km south of the border.

I'm curious about this restriction? Why is that? We are planning to travel in our diesel Ford; no problems, I hope.

David K - 4-12-2006 at 09:33 PM

Are you a Mexican citizen?

If not, then no worries... tons of American diesel cars and trucks drive Baja!

Frank - 4-12-2006 at 10:56 PM

I just filled up in Rosarito today. $60.00 to fill my Ford PSD diesel.... Viva Mexico!!!!!!!!!!

MY best understanding is that it is because diesel fuel is "subsidized" by the government for commercial purposes, and thus diesel vehicles are relegated to non-private use.

bajarich - 4-13-2006 at 05:46 PM

Last night on the news they said to expect gas at over 4 dollars/gal this summer in the States. There were no new emergencies, just business as usual.

jerry - 4-13-2006 at 06:07 PM

ITS RAPE PURE AND SIMPLE IN THE STATES

THINKING ABOUT FIRING UP MY STILL SEEMS IF A GUY GOT CORN SQUEESED THE OIL OUT FOR DIESLS, MADE A CORN MASH OUT OF THE PULP DISTILED IT FOR THE GAS RIGS,
FED THE USED MASH TO THE CATTLE FOR FOOD AND LET THE CHICKES PICK OUT WHAT THEY WANTED LEAVING WHATS LEFT FOR THE WORMS WOULD BE GOOD FOR FISHEN AND PLANTING CORN ?? NAAA THINK ILL JUST DRINK IT AND SNOOZE THROU IT ALL JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE PEOPLE IN THE USA SAYING DAM THEM OIL COMPANYS JERRY

woody with a view - 4-14-2006 at 07:50 AM

filled up at the yuma proving grounds yesterday for $2.57/gal unleaded.

this morning i drove past the local arco and it was $2.85/gal. had to re-fill b4 it goes any higher!!!!

Precios en Mexicali Ayer

MrBillM - 4-16-2006 at 01:04 PM

Driving South through El Centro and Calexico yesterday, the lowest prices advertised were $2.95 for 87 octane and $3.15 for 91 octane. I filled up en Mexicali and the prices were 8.27 pesos por litro (87) and 8.85 (91). At 10.85 pesos to the dollar, it worked out to $2.85 / $3.09 per gallon. Cheaper than El Norte, but not by much. I didn't get a chance to check the San Felipe prices since the gas stations were all a madhouse and I've got enough of a reserve to not need any for a week or two.

Aw. Big deal. Regular is now $4.00 / gal in Vancouver BC !!!

Can't figure out why - our Canadian oil companies don't have George W in their pocket. Must just be PURE greed, Eh?

:?: :fire:

David K - 4-21-2006 at 07:32 AM

It's government profit (taxes) and rediculous regulations that double the gas price and create shortages that drive up the price.

Because (one political group) prevents us from extracting the oil we have under are own soil, we must buy from other countries... Blame them, not the companies that make a product we want or need.

Packoderm - 4-21-2006 at 03:00 PM

Ok DK, if we started drilling the ANWR say 5 years ago, how much lower would the price of regular unleaded be from the $2.99 I saw today? There is not that much there, and it's not very cheap to pump out, transport, and refine. Also, what would the $2.99 for regular unleaded be without federal and California state taxes? It would be $2.49 cents rounded to the nearest penny. http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/statistics/gas_taxes_by_st... That's not that much savings with a total abolition of gasoline tax. However, in that scenario, it would be unfair to tax me via other methods of tax collection for the upkeep of roads and traffic signals, and to tax me for traffic law enforcement since I only ride my bicycle to school each day. I'd rather see my taxes go toward bike trails away from all the cars.

Packoderm - 4-21-2006 at 03:04 PM

And as for the ridiculous regulations such as all containers needing to be replaced in all Ca. gas stations, who do you think lobbied for that? The big, national gasoline venders generously offered to submit to such a thing. Who suffered? You got it.

Bruce R Leech - 4-22-2006 at 07:07 AM

Mulege is still the same

Magna.............$ 6.27 pesos per liter
Premium..........$ 7.40 pesos per liter
Diesel..............$ 5.15 pesos per liter

Bob H - 4-22-2006 at 07:23 AM

It was reported yesterday that the average price of gas in the US increased by 80-cents per gallon since January 1st of this year. I don't think we are seeing the decline yet as it seems the price is escalating daily! Dig deep in your pockets or do not drive a gas powered vehicle.
Bob H

Bob and Susan - 4-22-2006 at 07:30 AM

That's....

$2.16 Magna
$2.54 Premium
$1.77 Diesel

a lot cheaper in Baja

Yesterday I passed the gas station at Dateland (I-8 between Yuma and Gila Bend). Regular was $4.09.9 a gallon.

If you think gas taxes go to roads, you have been breathing way too many exhaust fumes on your bicycle commute.

Most go to the General Fund, where they are spent on anything....Usually having nothing in common with roads and commuting.

Yes, some gas taxes do go to the roads, but those are special local taxes voted on and passed by the voters in an attempt to do what the State will not. Ever notice how wide and nicely paved and free of potholes the roads are in Orange County???? Especially noticeable at the 5 Freeway at the County line. Goes from at least 6+ lanes in one direction on the OC side to 3 lanes on the LA side?..All from a ? cent sales tax.
