Tippytoestrish.....to answer your question from sharksbaja's thread about golfcourse grasses, watering, etc...
My tackle voices tell me that this summer season in Baja is going to be one of the best yet.
I asked, "Really! Why?"
They muttered back, "Because you will be out THERE..on the Cortez...and if you have accomplished that, then the event will be already a success,
tonto."
Now..as to actually catching any FISH??... Vastly different story....BUT..listening to my 34-year-old Baja tackle box chorus, they say this is ?most
probably? what will happen this summer in Sta. Rosalia - Mulege - Loreto areas:
FISH SPECIES......... MAY...... JUNE.....JULY......AUGUST....SEPTEMBER
Cabrilla .................Good.......Good.....Good......Good.......Fair
Dorado..................Good....... Better....Better....Better.....Good
Grouper.................Fair..........Good.....Good......Good......Fair
Roosterfish............Good........ Better...Better.....Better.....Better
Sailfish..................Fair...........Good....Good.......Good.....Good
Striped marlin........Good........Better...Better......Better...Better
Yellowfin................Good.......Good.....Better......Better....Better
Yellowtail...............Good.......Poor......Poor........Poor.......Poor
Walleyes, Trout, Pike, Grayling, Salmon, Ling Cod....whooops, wrong location...but will be better Up North!

..maybe you could try rubbing it a little?
Mine just told me this tackle store joke. (Don't know where it gets all this stuff!)
FISHING TACKLE..........
A woman goes into Wal-mart to buy a rod and reel. She doesn't know which one to get, so she just grabs one and goes over to the register. There is a
Wal-mart associate standing there with dark glasses on. She asks, "Excuse me sir. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?" He says, "Ma'am
I'm blind, but if you drop it on the counter I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound that it makes." She didn't believe
him, but dropped it all on the counter anyway. He said "That's a 6' graphite rod with Zebco 202 reel and 10 lb. test line. It's a good all around rod
and reel, and it's $20." She says, "That's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I think it's what I'm
looking for, so I'll take it." He walks behind the counter to the register. And in the meantime, the woman farts. At first she is embarrassed, but
then realizes that there is no way he could tell it was she. Being blind, he wouldn't know that she was the only person around. He rings up the sale
and says, "That will be $25.50." She asks, "But didn't you say it was $20?" He says, "Yes ma'am, the rod and reel is $20, the duck call is $3, and the
catfish stink bait is $2.50!"
The 'voices' have a warped sense of humor, but I have learned to live with it.

Couldn't agree more with you on that one! And since Cabrilla is one of my favorites, looks like we'll be in luck! Although I remember catching a
hammerhead shark one year, and that wasn't on your list...hmmm, maybe nobody really goes for them, huh?
Hey, I even have fun just catching the bait!

guess I didn't do the quote right, Pompano, sorry, don't mean to take the credit for that first line--still trying to figure out this website's
innards.

why the poor yellowfin this summer, do you think? we used to always get these during the summer, and they are lots of fun to catch!
Yellow Tail in the summer
Skeet/Loreto - 4-15-2006 at 03:25 AM
Tipptoestrish has forgotten that that the yellow Tail go deep in the summer!!
Some are still there but you must know the Deep Holes where they are located.
Tio Don O'Neil could leave his place, go to Tio"s hole off the South end of Carmen and have two nice 25 Lbders and be back home by 11; Oclock.
that has changed Trish! With the use of the new fangled equipt. any where within 25 Miles of Loreto Yellow tail are Hard to find in the Deep summer
months, except for the Old Timers who know the deep Holes, or go North to Pulpito.
Things have Changed!!

ranking and yellowtail in summer..
Pompano - 4-15-2006 at 06:19 AM
Bob H..sorry about the ambiguity....'Better' ranks highest...should have said 'Best'.. I guess.
trish...yellowfin might be a lot better down your way and especially on the East Cape.
And Skeet is right...those yellowtail are still around in spring and summer. They are just not so easy to find..
Deeper holes by Pulpito and Ille del Fonso are close enough to Loreto for a try. Also San Marcos by Sta. Rosalia has a year-round population of
tails.
So many lures...so little time.

Last year, the yellowtail fishing around Loreto really crashed about this time. We had expcted a really good late April bite, but...almost nada.
But by summer...it was the dorado's turn to be difficult, and the yellowtail fishing improved slightly. Late in July I went fishing with the Torres
and we fished for yellowtail, that was the best fishing available. And we did OK, too, fishing in about 200 feet off Punta Perico.
This summer..there are lots of medium size squid hanging out in various spots here, that may attract and hold the dorado with or without the sargasso.
I bet it's gonna be a good one. Hope so. I just finished building three new fishin' poles and I want to get them bent!
