I'm finding this topic especially interesting now, since my husband and I are moving to La Mision from Los Angeles in June. We certainly want to avoid
the "costly mistake" at the border! I just got an estimate, however from a moving company, that knocked me on my ear! $18,000! I just
couldn't believe it! And we don't have that much furniture. Yes, we do have a large digital printer, and several large pieces of excercise equipment,
but, not that much furniture. So we are now trying to go down every weekend, with boxes stuffed into our little Honda Accord. Of course, that isn't
going to help all that much, but at least we should be able to get most of the books, china , and video tapes handled. I would consider just renting a
Uhaul, and declaring everything, but we really will need help moving the stuff into the house, since my husband has just had arthroscopic surgery on
his shoulder, and we are not young. So can anyone actually recommend a moving company that they have used?

have you thought about having a garage sale . then you can take the money you get from selling your stuff and the 18,000 dollars and buy new things
down here. then you will only need to move your books and personal things.

Besides agreeing completely on the above posts about selling and replacing, you say you are taking a printer and a home gym, but not much furniture.
We had a smallish load, 500 cu ft that ImportExport International hauled from the border to (Cabo to) La Paz including all the paperwork, for $3250.
What sucked was that the San Diego company they used to pack everything and ship it 70 miles to their warehouse cost another $3500. So, if you can do
your own paperwork and get it packed and to their warehouse, it won't cost near as much. Good luck! What theheck are you hauling?

I really think that price was because the mover didn't want to go to Mexico, and wanted to discourage me from using them, which they certainly did! As
for having a garage sale, we can't do that, since we live up a private driveway that wouldn't get any traffic.

In the late 80's, while having a place in Tripui, I had the same problem. A mover in Sacramento wanted $ 5000.00 to move my furniture. I solved the
problem by buying an old 24ft overhead U haul with a loading ramp for $ 3300.00. Had all my stuff in it for 3 years ,while my house was being build.
Took it back to Sacramento and sold it for $ 3400.00. Was a perfect solution. Something to consider.

I would consider doing that, Vandenberg, if we were about 10 years or so younger, but we really will need physical help with the move itself. As I
told you, my husband has just had surgery on his shoulder, and I can't do all the lifting, although I am doing all of the packing so far--and I can
tell you my back is complaining already--books are heavy! The house in Mexico has stairs--just to get into it--so even to get our king size mattress
into the house would be impossible for me to do alone.

Find someone in La Mission to help, just ask around I'm sure they are people there that would love the work. You could ask the Contractor, or Real
estate person, local market!!!!!
On your end rent the biggest U-haul find out where the day workers hang out in your area (Home Depot etc) get them to do the heavy stuff.

There is a fella out on Ensenada called Miguel Inigues 646-175-3350. I have met him and he seems like a nice fella. He is quite reasonable and I was
going to use him for my move. I can not vouch for him as I have not used him yet, but maybe someone on the board can. He can help you with the
paperwork and translation for your household list and filling in forms as well (for a fee of course)
I plan on using another firm to bring my stuff from Florida to San Diego. (cost around $7000) and then Miguel would transfer load to his truck in San
Diego and move it down to ENsenada for about $1,500. Give him a call. Tell him Sonja gave you his name.
