What is the most current information regarding FM-3's and a vehicle permit? It is my understanding that people relocating to Mexico will need to get
the vehicle permit initially and as long as their FM-3 is regularly renewed the vehicle permit will also be valid even though it has expired. Is this
accurate?Bob and Susan - 4-26-2006 at 10:54 AM
yup in Baja...
now what about the insurance?
are you going to cover it?comitan - 4-26-2006 at 11:07 AM
I think the vehicle permits are only required on the mainland, I have never had one or know of anyone who has for the Baja.BajaGeoff - 4-26-2006 at 11:31 AM

Hopefully we will do the insurance as well! Also, with the FM-3 are the importation fees waived one time for moving all of your personal items to the
new home?osoflojo - 4-26-2006 at 12:26 PM
I agree with Comitan about the vehicle permits. Importing a vehicle is a whole other deal unrelated to the FM-3 process.baja829 - 4-26-2006 at 12:53 PM
You do not need a vehicle permit if you have an FM2 or 3 and live in the "free zone" area, like San Felipe, on the Sea of Cortez side or as far south
as Guerro Negro on the Pacific side. When we go to the mainland, we must obtain a vehicle permit to go beyond Benjamin Hill in Sonora. The FM2 or 3
expedites the process.
We "imported" a truck load of furniture by taking our FM3 to our local Mexican Consul in the States and they gave us a form to complete -- new and
used items, which we listed on 4 pages and were able to bring them across without duty or problems. We did require a broker in Calexico, to validate
what was on the list. You can also have a Mexican moving company come up and get all of your furniture and bring it down to your home here,
however, it's quite costly.Bob and Susan - 4-26-2006 at 12:56 PM
