Are tourist cards really necessary? Headng to BOLA in a couple weeks and I've never bothered to get one before. Are they checking now? If so, is it
easier in Ensenada (and where)? Thanks.

Yes they are necessary anywhere south of Maneadero and the EASIEST thing to do is get them thru discoverbaja.com if you are a member. Download the
app, fill it out and send it to them with a copy of your passport and a check for the fee. In a few days it comes back to you all ready to go; you
just have to get it stamped at one of the Immigration Offices!

Since you need to stop and get them stamped anyway, save yourself the trouble of mailing away passports, etc. and just get them at the border.
Get into the far right lane marked 'something to declare' (best reached by using I-805 to go south through San Diego). After crossing into Mexico,
park in the covered area and walk to the office signed INM (Immigration) with your passports or birth certificates plus photo IDs. The bank teller
window is a few steps away where you pay the fee (about $US 20) then return to INM for that final stamp. This office and the teller are open 24/7 at
Tijuana.
Oh, and to answer your question... No, they do not check for them anywhere in the state of Baja California. Only at the border with Baja Ca Sur near
Guerrero Negro.
But, you don't want to be an 'illegal alien' do you?
