Home Depot Ensenada

Bedman - 5-16-2006 at 02:41 PM

Boy, I can't tell you all the problems I've been having.

Just trying to find out from our local Home Depot if the Ensenada HD has the same products available as here in OC.

2 weeks ago I walked into our local HD and asked them that question. No one there could answer the question. Finally they found the Asst manager and he assured me he would find out and get back to me.

Since then I have visited their website several times. Even the Mexico web site. By the way, they don't have an English version!! All US stores have spanish versions, but not the Mexico sites, Go Figur!!

Finally I get a call last Friday. The asst manager says they don't have a HD in Ensenada. But they do have one in Mexicali and Tijuana!! I tell him in no uncertain terms that there is One in Ensenada. He says he'll have to check into it.

Fast forward to today, Tuesday. I get another call from the guy. Now he says that the Home office in Atlanta says they dont have one in Ensenada!! Geezzz. am I hallucinating every time I drive through Ensenada?

The Asst Manager says he'll keep trying and that he has the phone number of the one in TJ, but he can't get the call to go through. So I ask hime if he has dialed 011 52 and the area code followed by the phone # ............... Long pause on the phone..."You have to dail all those numbers??" By the way, he speaks spanish fluently and has a hispanic name.

I'm waiting for the latest developements.

Any one seen the Home Depot in Ensenada? Any one shop there yet? Am I having Hallucinations??

Inquiring minds want to know

Bedman

PS. Excuse the typos, soft ware won't let me delete or spell check.

Just as a guess I would say 75% US goods 25% other. Have at it guys use your own percentages, by the way I believe its Home Depot Mexico affiliated only.

Debra - 5-16-2006 at 02:55 PM

Sorry Debra

Debra - 5-16-2006 at 03:04 PM

Diver, where are you getting gas that cheap?

home depot

sylens - 5-16-2006 at 03:37 PM

is here close to costco in ensenada and it looks like the ones on the usa side, but there the resemblance ends. i think.

we had some cabinets made recently and were looking at handles for drawers. our carpenter suggested we find them at a little mom and pop hardware store. i suggested we try home depot. he said he'd dropped in and that everything he priced (variety off carpentry-related materials and supplies) cost MORE at home depot than at his favorite little store. i was incredulous, but we went and made the comparisons. the (polished nickel modern) drawer handles we selected were 15 pesos each at mom and pop's and 45 pesos each at home depot.:bounce:
not used to that.

don't have any idea why.

Debra,

I didn't want to accuse you of inflationary tactics but a quick calculation approximating 2600 miles/15 mpg X $3.10/gallon equals $537.33 round trip ! The rest is for chips and beer !!

cathart - 5-16-2006 at 04:07 PM

Sylens, and Hose A, since we are starting to build just south of Rosarito, we will be needing a lot of stuff soon. We would love to know where you do your local shopping--for things like hardware, and drawer handles, etc. You both seem to know the "Mom & Pop" type places, and we like to shop locally anyway.

bajalera - 5-16-2006 at 04:36 PM

Aha! Another Baja mystery--The Lost Enasenada Home Depot joins the Lost Mission Isabel.

Bernie, could this be another book?

Bob and Susan - 5-16-2006 at 05:17 PM

i too contacted home depot headquarters last year...ha ha

they're not much help...they just don't know

the prices at the home depot in tj were very near the prices in the US for items i checked.

Costco across the srteet is about the same too....

easy shopping...i know i'll have an empty trailer when i cross and fill it in ensenada:bounce:

Debra - 5-16-2006 at 05:35 PM

Diver......I was planning some side trips, you blew it for me! I have a 12yr. old boy in tow........and you know how they eat!

Bedman - 5-16-2006 at 06:06 PM

Comi, Thanks for the %'s
-------------------------------------
Debra, the check is in the mail.
------------------------------------------
Diver, your check is also in the mail.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hose, your check is also in the mail. and Thanks for the phone #. I'll call my friendly Asst. Mgr. and give it to him. I'm sure he'll know what to do with it!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hose A and Sylens,

I have a kind of large list. Can all of these items be purchased at the same Mom and Pop?
3 steel doors, knobs and locks, 3 light fixtures, 3 light switches, 5 ea. 120 wall plugs, kitchen sink and faucet, bathroom sink and faucet, shower head, shower mixer valve, stove top and oven, toilet and tank and all the plumbing to the wall for all of the above.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And Thanks for the responses, one and all.

David K - 5-16-2006 at 06:22 PM

Last year, I was shopping for 3" corrugated or coex (smooth-wall) drain pipe to use in the proposed Mision Santa Maria drain solution at the Tijuana Home Depot... Something that is very common in the Home Depots here to control rain and overflow water or to connet to roof gutters to take the rain water out to the street or low area.

No such thing in Mexico it seems, only the heavy wall, expensive sewer pipe. No drain fittings like catch basins or smaller grates either.

I bought some on this side to use, but the project was cancelled at the very last minute by INAH.

4baja - 5-16-2006 at 06:30 PM

Home Depot in Ensenada? Steve---what are you talking about. Let's meet for dinner this week and give me some of those **^%$&...

Thank goodness your wife is around to take care of you...

This coming from the same guy who scraped the road to Alphonsina's with a device dragging behind his MOHO---what was that trip again ??? 7 hours!

Yes it's there and open for biz...has everything you could ever want. And in downtown Ensenada their is a french delicatessan named "Paris De Noche," rumor has it a number of racers have been hanging out there.

Photos on the way----

small hardware stores

sylens - 5-17-2006 at 03:14 PM

are everywhere. the one i referred to is actually more a carpenter's shop. i agree with hose a that home depot may be the only place you could find everything on your list. in addition to the small mom and pop stores, though, there is proconsa on reforma (a true value mexican style) and on fourth just 2 or 3 blocks west of reforma there is ace hardware (again, mexican style)

i'm leaving town for 2 weeks tomorrow, but if you want addresses, u2u me and i'll send the info (two weeks from now)

bajatracker - 5-17-2006 at 03:32 PM

Stevo My brother and I stopped there at Easter to pick up a pila for him.
I cruised the ailes and checked everything out and they pretty much have everything at about the same price or a little bit higher. After you figure paying the import tax of 27% then its pretty much a bargain. It also has easy access and is on the way.

(Hi Bin-Bin see you soon Ellie.)

See you soon

Phil

GeoRock - 5-17-2006 at 04:15 PM

Stopped there Sunday May 7th. But I'll gladly go back there for you, and I'll only charge $400.

Debra - 5-17-2006 at 05:06 PM

When oh when will I learn to use U2U or just plain email? Even "georock" is undercutting me! I'd be halfway to Baja if I'd just kept my mouth shut! :(:D

Bedman - 5-17-2006 at 05:10 PM

Bob and Susan
Not, 120 wall plugs. Rather 3 ea. 120vac wall plugs.

Tim
Yes, Thank Goodness she is here and taking care of me.

The Second Gonzaga trip in the Moho was way faster than the First. Towed 12 feet of chain link fence behind the 4X4 in front of the Moho. Smoothed out the sandy washboard and we averaged 14 MPH. First trip without dragging the road we averaged 3 to 4 MPH. OMG slow!! and still, anything screwed, glued or nailed to a wall came down.

The dinner invite still stands and has for more than 5 years.

Lili
Thanks for the heads up, I might take a look but, HD sounds like what I'm going to do. Just for the ease of it all.

Phil
I'm thinking like you. Import tax, ease of access and everything in one place. Hopefully they have everything I need. See the Email I sent you today.

ELLIE!!
The Cutest, Smartest young lady I know. See you in a few days. Come on over and watch cartoons with me!!

GeoRock
Gosh!! Your going to BUY all that stuff, PICK IT UP Ensenada and DELIVER to Bahia De Los Angeles. All for $400 NP??? Do you Install too?:O

Thank you all for your insightful comments.

As always

Someone told me that PAINT is very expensive in the Ensenada stores. Always buy paint stateside. Is this true?
I've heard Europeans walking around Home Depot saying how cheap everything is in the US compared to their country (British accent).
