Well amigo, here's a Baja lunch you guys missed out on today in Oceanside!

Mariscos Ensenada now serves TIJUANA BEER!!!

Baja Angel enjoyed a carne asada burrito and I had three tacos (fish, shrimp, carne asada)... to wash down we had a mix of Moreno and Guera Cerveza Tijuana and awesome salsa!

Here we are a few weeks back....

David K - 5-21-2006 at 08:34 PM

Sorry amigo, I asked you under a post you made (see PuerteSitos thread) and saw that you were still on Nomad after... so I presumed you saw my invitation...

>> Bob... How about lunch today at Mariscos Ensenada in Oceanside? <<

It was muy good... and the TJ Beer was a great addition there!

Victoria? What is THAT?

Bob and Susan - 5-22-2006 at 05:52 AM

Anheuser-Busch USA holds 50 percent Victoria Beer MX.

Victoria has the reputation of being the "cheesy" beer brand
kinda like Old Milwaukee

You find it in big chain stores at prices below that of other brands.

I remember way back when Schlitz beer tasted good....
Does anyone remember what PBR stands for?

David K - 5-22-2006 at 05:21 PM

Pabst Blue Ribbon

By the way, Bob regarding Victoria beer... One of my Oaxaca friends claimed it is the same as Pacifico, sold in southern Mexico... I saw it and tried some in Baja, and it is not Pacifico...

A-OK - 5-22-2006 at 09:44 PM

So spill the beans on where its at, DK. Anitas has been the old standby since La Mision got leveled......... but another down south style joint up in North County sounds good.

David K - 5-22-2006 at 10:08 PM

Oh, sorry A-OK... We talked about it before... The place is MARISCOS ENSENADA and it is on the southwest corner of Oceanside Blvd. (exit I-5 go east) and El Camino Real (The King's Highway, LOL) in a strip mall... large parking lot.

Anitas is usually real good, but DON'T order a torta there (where's the beef?)!

Bob H - 5-22-2006 at 10:11 PM

I ordered garlic shrimp here and it was fantastic. A nice fix for Baja madness.... lol

David K - 5-22-2006 at 10:24 PM

Bob did I guess the beer correctly (PBR)?;)

Here is my list of drinkable beers in Baja: Dos Equis (XX), Pacifico, Tecate, Tijuana Beer, Mexicali Beer, Bohemia, Carta Blanca, Sol...

I only drink Corona if someone hands me one so as not to be rude... It's funny, because at age 18+, that is what we often all ordered and drank in San Felipe... I first legally bought beer (1975) at the Bar Miramar!

sol i think is just like corona in taste and buzz quotient.

Bob , got your call, just not had time to re connect. We'll coordinate that trip next week when i get back from mulege ok?

David K - 5-23-2006 at 07:08 AM

Yah, I wasn't even going to list Sol, but Antonio's wife Lorenia got Baja Angel hooked on it, so I will drink it if it is just sitting there in the ice chest looking lonely... It is last on my list above.

A-OK - 5-23-2006 at 05:50 PM

Thanks for the directions. I'll have to stop there on Sunday when I'm in O-side.

David K - 5-23-2006 at 05:52 PM

Yah, it's pretty close to that 'Baja Feeling' on this side of the border...

bajalera - 5-23-2006 at 09:50 PM

Hey, DK, you forgot the Negra Modelo.

David K - 5-23-2006 at 10:14 PM

Hi Lera,
No... I didn't forget THAT! LOL

Negra Modelo was the official sponsor of the 1979 SCORE Baja 1000 (this was the first year SCORE ran the 1000 to La Paz).

I drank way too much Negra Modelo the night before the '79 Baja 1000 (I was a co-driver)... After we blew up the differential and were out of the race... I threw up all the Negra Modelo and then some! Never had that stuff again!:wow::barf::barf::barf::wow:

Just FYI

Photo of me pre-running in our Class 6 race car... I was 22!

bajalera - 5-23-2006 at 10:27 PM

Well, that's certainly a very good reason for dissing my beer of preference, so I'll forgive ya.

I envy your race care experience. Those things look like such fun, and that NOISE. I've always wanted to roar around the boonies in one.

David K - 5-23-2006 at 10:40 PM

It was a dream I had (to be in the Baja 1000)... My dad took me to Ensenada and then out past Ojos Negros to see the '73 Baja 1000...

I went to the first SCORE Baja race The '74 Baja Internacional and probably every race after that...

In '78 I went to Nuevo Junction to watch the SCORE Baja Internacional ('Baja 500') and met some of the Los Campeones pit team crew there... who invited me to assist (I got to hold the fire extiguisher during fueling)...

I soon became a pit captain for Los Campeones pits at Baja and The Parker 400 races... One of their race members invited me to be his co-driver for the 1000...

So, if you want something bad enough, then put yourself on the track to make it happen.

Lera - yeah! Negra Modelo is one of the classiest mex beers to go with food. maybe amber XX too if there's no negra.
