Bob and Susan - 5-23-2006 at 07:43 PM
interesting...have you ever painted on one?
pictures?
Bob and Susan - 5-23-2006 at 07:46 PM
i looked this up....
"Artist's conk - The artist's conk is a particular kind of bracket fungus, Ganoderma applanata.
When fresh, the pore surface on the underside of the sporophore is pure white, but it immediately turns brown upon being touched.
The artist uses this characteristic to create drawings on the pore surface.
Once dry, the pore surface will no longer change color when touched, thus preserving the art work."
Sharksbaja - 5-23-2006 at 07:48 PM
Yes, actually! If you flip one over you can write on the white spore producing area as you would a piece of paper. The spores instantly stain dark
permanently where you mark or write upon it.

Jacolosuchil. Accent mark on the u. Honest. My neighbor, who knows these things taught me this a few years ago. I learned the name of our
Guamuchil tree the same day. It took hours.
Sharksbaja, do you serve any of those mushrooms and fungus in your restaurant?
[Edited on 5-24-2006 by Paula]
