To buy property in Mexico does one have to hold am FM3 or can it be done with an FMT? thanks in advance

I believe that the purchase of property in Mexico does not require a particular status. Nor, I think does construction. The FM3 seems to be a
requirement for residing in Mexico for a period longer than permitted by an FMT. As a matter of fact, I had to prove that I owned Mexican property in
order to get my FM3.
Having said that, we all know that "requirements" vary from place to place and time to time. The real estate broker where you are buying can tell you
what happens most of the time. Then, I would confirm with recent purchasers what their experience was.

FMT is fine. Otherwise how could all these timeshare/fractional/whatevers sell anything. People would have to go get their papers before they could
purchase and that would slow the whole process down to the point that people might actually think twice about buying....

All you need when you buy is your FMT, when you are actually moving, then you should get the FM3.

Most just have to show a address in Mex. to get a FM3, not ownership.

Butttt -
If you own property you may be required to get an FM3 regardless whether you are moving are not.
I bought without any immigration/tourist paperwork. 2 years later the immigration officials came from Santa Rosalia to the house while I was there on
vacation requiring I get an FM3 even though I did not spend a lot of time there. 4-5 weeks a year, 1-2 weeks at a time.
Post script. Glad I did... Now working on FM2. It made alot of things easier as time went on. I am now spending most of the year there
