May I suggest that you have total control of this board and if you are so conditioned to being upset about the off-topic board--where I believe most
of the real thinking occurs on your board--that you just wave your wand (you are the boss) and do away with it instead of throwing roadbolock in the
way of real ( but sometimes nasty) interchange of ideas. Count the hits and decide!Roberto - 5-23-2006 at 09:44 PM

Bernie, with all due respect, are you serious?
The off-topic has turned into a free-for-all insult-as-you-can complete lack of any semblance of humanity, intelligence or "real thinking" domain of a
few rampaging people who shall remain nameless (I would have to be uncivil myself to name them or go futher, but I think most "thinking" people get
the point).
Other than that, you are 100% correct.

Enter at your own risk. Be forewarned.
Even beautiful Baja has a seamy underside in places. Should we not go.....I think not.
Parents, monitor your children. Dont force Doug to.

Off Topic ??? Why, when there is SOOO MUCH ON TOPIC (Baja) we could discuss!
I stopped going there many many months ago... No matter how much logic or facts (or emotion) that are displayed, the opposition NEVER will change
their opinions.
Why bother slinging insults? You are just alienating fellow Nomads that would be much better people to you if they were friends.
Think about it... and then post your favorite Baja stories here, instead!Paula - 5-23-2006 at 10:39 PM
Very good advice, David K. Thank you!!BajaNomad - 5-23-2006 at 10:45 PM

I don't think I've ever
been "upset" over the off-topic forum. In fact, it seems to serve the purpose of my deciding to put it there quite well. So even though I find the
content questionable at times, in effect, I'm happy about it from what it accomplishes.
It's a mechanism to achieve a goal - and so far it seems it's being met.
The only "roadblock" was putting in a published password today, as I wished to create another step to entry as a deterrent/reminder
for/about our now increasing viewership by some younger Nomads.
That's it - plain and simple.
If I didn't want it there, it would've been gone long-ago.

That forum is not on Today's Posts Judy... People are talking about it in other forums.Diver - 5-24-2006 at 07:41 AM
DK,
Yes Off-Topic forum items ARE shown on the list of post and Off-Topic conversations are shown on the "recent posts" listing.bajalou - 5-24-2006 at 08:18 AM
As of this minute - there are NO "Off Topic" headings shown in "Today's Posts on my machine - looked at all 3 pages and none for me.bajalou - 5-24-2006 at 08:27 AM
Where did your post of 8:24 go Hose A? I checked again and still no "Off Topic" in todays stuff.Diver - 5-24-2006 at 08:39 AM
Hmmmm.
I've got the Off-Topic on my "today's posts" page and they are accessible without password. I just replied to a post Bernie made.
Check out his most reent post - it's nice.bajajudy - 5-24-2006 at 08:41 AM
Me too, Diver.
Well I didnt reply but I read it without the prompt for a password.Paula - 5-24-2006 at 08:46 AM
As of right now my screen shows 7 off topic threads under today's posts. All are offensive to me except perhaps Bernie's grandson story. Although I
do get caught up from time to time in political discussions here, I prefer not to. Immigration issues do relate to living and traveling in Baja.
Slams against liberals do not.
So I think off-topic is fine if it isn't catching my eye. I hope it moves back to where it belongs soon.bajalou - 5-24-2006 at 09:00 AM

It's a Cookie
Don Alley - 5-24-2006 at 09:21 AM
If you used the "over 18" password, the board software put a cookie on your hard drive. To get the "Off Topic" stuff off your "Today's Posts" you need
to find the cookie, fidpw37, contents "under 18" and remove it. Simply clearing the cache or logging out did not work for me. Removing the cookie did.Anonymous - 5-24-2006 at 09:29 AM
Thanks Don, that was easy.
While logged on, I clicked internet options and deleted my cookies.
Whala, all is back to normal !Diver - 5-24-2006 at 09:31 AM
Oops.
Deleting my cookies also logged me off. Hmmm.Diver - 5-24-2006 at 09:33 AM
How did I get an anonymous post onto this forum ?
I thought their access was limited to the "Baja Questions and Answers" forum ?bajajudy - 5-24-2006 at 09:51 AM
OK, how do I get rid of my cookies...I use Netscape.
I seriously thought about barfing but that does seem drastic.Diver - 5-24-2006 at 10:00 AM
Barfing goes on the Off-Topic forum ! Don Alley - 5-24-2006 at 10:04 AM
Dumping ALL of your cookies will also dump the cookie that "recognizes" your computer so you don't have to log on every visit.
Anonymous posts seem to work on the "suggestions" topic.
Who knows what other problems you could have with other sites if you deleted all your cookies. Then again, who knows what problems you might have had
if you had left all those cookies there?
So again, just delete the cookie "fidpw37" that has as content "over 18." Not all your cookies.
Tossing your cookies: don't do it on your keyboard.
Seriously...I use Safari on a Mac. In Safari you can go to Preferences, then Security, then View Cookies. Select and delete any unwanted cookies.
Maybe that works on Netscape?
But if you are using Windows, then I would reccomend tossing your cookies on the keyboard.bajajudy - 5-24-2006 at 11:02 AM
Jeez what a mess...does anyone know how to get corn out from between the keys.
Cant seem to find my cookies either. I remember them being in Preferences in the old Netscape but not in 7.2Paula - 5-24-2006 at 11:17 AM

Always have a virus vaccination! I just don't like the impromtu shutdowns that Microsoft initiates for updating Windows. Very irritating to wake up to

Doug
As far as I am concerned you can leave it the way it is.
Now that I dont have to look at off topic to get to the good stuff, I can certainly live without ever going back into off topic. As a matter of fact,
it would probably be good for me. Its kinda like riding by an accident, you know that you shouldnt look but you have to sneak a peek and the next
thing you know, you are so sorry that you did. I have been very sorry on several ocassions that I opened a post over there. I am sure thankful that
you have that area for people to vent. Some of them appear to need it.BajaNomad - 5-24-2006 at 12:42 PM

handled... if you've entered the password, the off-topic should NOT now appear in today's posts.

OK, I am home from work.. and am surprised Doug didn't post an explanation...
There was a 'glitch' in the software the cause SOME of you folks who read or post in OFF TOPIC FORUM to see Today's 'Off Topic' Posts... like Judy,
Diver, Hose A, Paula...
Lou and I didn't see them as they weren't on our screens... and no I don't do mushrooms
The REST of us who DON'T go into Off Topic, saw NO Off Topic Posts listed in 'Today's Posts.
I don't know why Baja isn't enough to keep you 'off topicers' entertained!

Baja Bernie - 5-25-2006 at 04:48 AM
I don?t write ?stuff? on this board to curry favor with other people here and I don?t sling dirt and I don?t stoop to foul language. I write and
discuss things that ?I? have determined will make me grow as a person. And I certainly do not see it as one of my goals to change anybody?s mind
except my own. I do, very much, enjoying sharing my thoughts with others and I believe that many folks on this board pay a bit more than a passing
attention to what I say because they know that I think and that I care about people.
You continually maintain that you no longer visit the off topic sight and that is fine but that surely does not have any bearing on what I do as a
grown adult.
I do have a growing disrespect for a few posters who post, either on ?off-topic? and other areas of this forum because, to me, they reduce their own
ability to communicate (is that not why we bother to be here) valid thoughts because they get downright nasty, pompous, or 'holier than thou.'
To suggest that people who visit any area of information are somehow ?dirty? is silly and when the suggestion is then added that one might become a
better person by going to other information sources is close to being a bigot. The fact that people enjoy posting unusual locations and then asking
others to identify their location is, I?m sure, great fun for them?I don?t belittle their interests just because I don?t share those interests.
I very much enjoy most of what you post and often think, ?David will be along soon and give us valid information on that subject.?Remember, it was I
who named you ?
The Baja Connection.? Like you I, too have a lot of knowledge on Baja but it is more concentrated on its people and culture and the humorous side of
things.
To sum up, I would like to say that I believe that I have contributed, in a positive way, to this forum and to the old Amigo?s Board since you were so
kind as to introduce me to them so long ago.
One last thought?I do quite often wonder and worry if I am irritating those people who might be buying my books or who might be willing to sell same
for me. BUT, I always come to the conclusion that in my actions I must be true to what I believe and one of my strongest beliefs is that people must
be treated with dignity and respect.
Good night my friend!David K - 5-25-2006 at 07:29 AM
Good morning amigo...
I did not mean to implicate you in my suggestions... My experience in Off Topic years ago was that it was a Liberal vs. Conservative war zone and it
was alienating Nomads, IMO.
Baja is about 'friends helping friends' I read on a tee shirt I have
Off Topic was not a friendly place when I looked. Perhaps it has changed?
I don't want to irritate anyone and I do delete posts if it does. Promoting fun in Baja is all I wish for... and because this is a public forum for
Baja discussion frindships are created in the sharing of information or telling of stories!
Viva Baja, Bernie!Paula - 5-25-2006 at 12:12 PM
Larry, I deleted a post of mine the other day. It wasn't a lack of conviction or courage, but I felt like I had encouraged another of those long,
unpleasant political discussions that turn to shouting matches. Another Nomad called it to my attention, and I realized that I really did not want to
participate in the conversation any further, and so stopped it before it really began.
Generally I agree with you, but maybe an occasional exception is warranted.
