TIPs still being required in SR/Mulege area?

Hook - 5-25-2006 at 11:38 AM

Are they still requiring Temporary Import Permits in that area? Even for those of us who aren't leaving the boat down there?

I found a link to a service provided by Banjercito that allows you to order a TIP by filling out all info on the internet. Saw it on the 'Lectronic Latitudes site. Credit card billing as well. Supposed to arrive by Fed Ex within 10 days of order. Anybody used this yet?

Bob and Susan - 5-25-2006 at 12:33 PM

hey bruce

what are you doing for licenses?

Not sure......

Hook - 5-25-2006 at 01:13 PM

...but I think that was the one permit that he couldn't process. You had to go to SR and do the paper shuffle with boat in hand.

Bob and Susan - 5-25-2006 at 01:29 PM

that's what i did...

Bob and Susan - 5-25-2006 at 01:31 PM

hook this page shows you where to go...

http://www.mulege.org/ProgressLinks/february2006/february200...

Thanks, man!

Hook - 5-25-2006 at 03:58 PM

That will be my back up plan. I think I will test the Banjercito method tonite. You just swear that all the info in the online app is correct. No inspeccion, apparently.

Already got my fishing and boat fishing licenses thru the Vags.

I hadn't been on your website in quite awhile; didnt realize you had so much info other than your project. LOVE ALL THE OPEN SPACE YOU HAVE AROUND YOU!

Expect we will be eating in Mulege a couple times. Sure would like for you to join us one night, if you're down. Is Danny's (not Dony's/Mely's) still open on Saturday nights? Is that his carnitas night?

Bruce R Leech - 5-25-2006 at 05:34 PM

Bob I need faster Palms try 50 cycles per min.:?:

Bruce R Leech - 5-25-2006 at 07:22 PM

I cant find anything on boats. there is a site that dose cars.

Paula - 5-25-2006 at 09:24 PM

Not to hijack the thread, but Bruces palm trees look great dancing to the circus music in Oso's tourism post.:lol:

Here's the link

Hook - 5-25-2006 at 10:20 PM

It's rather involved, walks you through clearing your cache and temp internet files, but it seems to get you there. Not sure if the 50.00 US fee is tacked on to the cost of the permit or if that's the total cost. Haven't done it yet.

Bruce R Leech - 5-26-2006 at 06:55 AM

Yes please Hook

Not confident of this method

Hook - 5-26-2006 at 11:44 AM

I went through the steps but it eventually took me to a boat description page and asked for my make of boat. Skipjack was not an option and I wasnt really willing to turn in false info. There was no "other" selection.

So, I put Sea Ray down just to continue and see how it would go. It basically let me finish and then sent me back to the pay page, where I stopped.

There are many boats listed but Skippy and Blackman are not among them. And since my fishing boat permit specifically states Skipjack, I want the two to coincide.

looks like I may be doing the shuffle in SR. Anyone know the hours of the office on a Friday? Also, I am not keen on towing into downtown SR. Where to park and walk?

Can all this be done at the border?????

Pescador - 5-26-2006 at 12:48 PM

Hook, if you need to go to Santa Rosalia, the person who can walk you through the whole process is Olivia Canul. Her office is at Calle 8 number 41. e-mail is
olivia01@prodigy.net.mx
Phone is 615-152-1399 office
She is Sid Lindsay's wife and they live right between Alan and the fish Cleaning station at San Lucas.
She is the official person in Santa Rosalia to handle that.

Bruce R Leech - 5-26-2006 at 01:31 PM

I hate to chase away business but it is more important to me to help a Nomad Hook. it seems to me that if Santa Rosalia is the only place that is requiring the T.I.P. then it might be a good option to go to Loretto and get your Boat permit.

It's not the only place that's requiring it......

Hook - 5-26-2006 at 02:39 PM

.....it's just one of the only places that's requiring one from the simple trailerboater who is NOT leaving his boat in Mexico while he returns to the States. That is what it has been for and that is how they are interpreting it in Sonora.

I aint going to Loreto......I like SR/SLC/Mulege, even with the tougher launching with my boat.

I'll get one somehow, probably thru Pescador's recommendation. Thanks for the tip, Jim. Do you know if Alan is still there? I emailed him but have gotten no reply yet.

jerry - 5-26-2006 at 03:25 PM

Bob and Susan - 5-26-2006 at 05:29 PM

they wont import anything less than 15 feet any where.:?:

Pescador - 5-27-2006 at 10:09 AM

Alan is still there, but may be leaving before too long to head north for awhile.
Sid Lindsay posted some stuff on this issue awhile back but you can probably find it in the search section.
There have been conflicting opinions on whether or not one really needed to do that if you were not leaving your boat there. There was some talk that without that permit you would not be allowed to fish the Mulege tounament, but they rescinded that at the last minute since it was a little unclear about the issue. I think Olivia will give you the latest information about that issue though.

turtleandtoad - 5-27-2006 at 11:09 AM

The rules say that any pleasure or sport-fishing vessel of 4.5 meter (14.8 ft) or longer must have a TIP. And it's being enforced in lower Sonora also.

Of course that doesn't mean that the local officials have read the rules, know how to convert meters to feet, or even feel like following the rules.

It's the old "RCNC" (Red Clown Nose Contingency).

turtleandtoad - 5-27-2006 at 12:02 PM

I just tried that Banjercito website.

All I can say is, maybe in the future it'll become a useable tool but in it's present configuration, it's a waste of time for all RV'ers and most boat owners. Right now it's very buggy and poorly researched. One of the first things I noticed is that they couldn't seem to decide whether you should use a single or double click.

After reading the "pre-registration" section on boats, I tried to read the section on RV's. But no matter how I tried (including clearing my Temp files) all I ever got was the boat info.

For you non-geeks, no website should require you to clear out your cookies and temp pages. This is a dead give-away that the coder is a rank amateur. They have also disabled the 'ctrl/F5' function, another warning sign.

Then I tried to fill out the RV form and couldn't find any US or Canadian RV manufacturers listed in the drop-down menu. All they have is car and heavy truck manufacturers, most from Europe. This makes the form totally useless unless you're driving a Benz.

And, as has already been pointed out, the boat list is very limited.

A "D" for effort and an "F" for functionality!

It's no surprise that it's being enforced in lower Sonora. That is not consider "free zone" whereas everything from Empalme north is. The Grossman's aren't requiring it anymore at MSC, at least according to something I read on a San Carlos board. It was first hand info from someone who talked to Heidi about it.

Jorge, I guess I will try and alter my departure time to hit the offices in Ensenada. Guess I will have to leave late morning on the 8th.

Some have also suggested having the Coral do it. I think I'll call them next week.

Bob and Susan - 5-27-2006 at 01:13 PM

coral is a very GOOD idea!!!

turtleandtoad - 5-27-2006 at 01:26 PM

Actually it was in Bahia Kino that I ran across the problem. A friend of mine that has kept his 24' cabin cruiser there for the last 15 years was asked , for the first time in those 15 years, for his boat and fishing license. Since he didn't have either he had to go to the closest Banjercito to get them. When he got there, they asked for his passport and TIP. Here again he didn't have either. They were willing to sell him a TIP if he could prove he was a US citizen, but they refused to accept his drivers license or birth certificate. They insisted on a passport. So he had to drive back to Phoenix and get it.

So don't think that if you're north of Empalme, you're safe!

The dreaded RCNC strikes again!!:lol::lol::lol:

jerry - 5-27-2006 at 01:27 PM

like i said it was a new rule to do it in lapaz or santa rosalia they measured my boat its acually less than 14 ft
next yr will be a whole different story
but i would like to hear how it worked out

dont die wondering

CasadelCardon - 6-2-2006 at 11:13 AM

Hello Nomads,

I have been a long time visitor to this site but have never posted but was interested in this thread. We are taking down to Santispac, a new to us ?Sea Ox? boat. (Un nombre bastante feo para una panguita.) So I was interested in how to obtain the Temporary Import Permit. I went on line to the Banjercito site, went directly to the registration area, didn?t clear any cookies, filled out the form as best I could. Since Sea Ox wasn?t listed, I entered ?Otros? for the boat manufacturer. I submitted the form on line on May 26. On May 31 I received the TIP via FedEx. Banjercito had date-stamped the TIP on the same day that I submitted it!! I still needed to submit copies of documents that I used to prepared the form, i.e., passport, boat registration, etc. These I scanned and submitted them electronically to Banjercito. I did send it ?read receipt? and haven?t received the receipt yet.

So all in all, the process was not that difficult and surprisingly quick. We will be crossing the border on June 17. I?ll post if we run into any problems with the Aduana.

Un cordial saludo a todos los Nomads

Kathy de Santispac

Bob and Susan - 6-2-2006 at 11:30 AM

you won't have problems with the Aduana but...

do you have your boat fishing license yet?
that's where the problem occurs.

CasadelCardon - 6-2-2006 at 11:39 AM

Yes, we have the boat permit and fishing licenses.

Thanks!

Kathy

Sharksbaja - 6-2-2006 at 12:02 PM

and as luck would have it......Paco handled the whole permit ordeal.

He's the only one who knows the score, and what "otro" means!

Bob and Susan - 6-2-2006 at 12:04 PM

you're in!!!!

Dammit!

Hook - 6-2-2006 at 02:33 PM

I didnt see the otro option. Now I'm resigned to getting it the slow and tedious way once I get there.

I probably wont be getting one until Monday, the 12th though I expect to be fishing the 10-11. Hope I get away with it.

Bruce R Leech - 6-4-2006 at 01:58 PM

it isnt to bad Hook
