first storm of the year

woody with a view - 5-27-2006 at 07:56 AM

tropical depression 1E formed off acapulco yesterday. winds are light at this time. let's all cross our fingers for a spectacular hurricane season as last years was the weakest in a decade or more.

by spectacular i mean that the storms will stay out to sea so that the damage to life and limb is minimal. but spectacular also means weeks of pumping hurricane swell. :wow:

spring has been great, let's hope summer comes through....

be careful of what you wish. we here in Mulege as in most areas of Baja sur depend on these storms to replenish our underground water. if it were not for the storms most of what we all enjoy here would not exist.:O we get very little damage from these storms other than where people build houses right on the river in the flood plane. but they are asking for trouble. the benefits way out way the problems.

bruce-

i realize the rain is necessary. that's what i meant by the storms staying offshore. in my mind i hoped you'd get your rain while the folks on the pacific would not get BLASTED by direct hits.

elgatoloco - 5-27-2006 at 09:32 AM

Let's hope it holds off just a bit. My wife flew to Mazatlan this AM to help crew a friend's 50 foot cat,'Vamanos', to Ensenada via Cabo & Bahia Tortugas. :D

yes woody but if they stay offshore we wont get any rain. what we all need to do is build our houses to stand op to the environment that we live in. stay out of the flood planes and buy insurance. people from the U.S. and other countries are used to the government protecting them in the way of building codes and inspections and the such. Here in Mexico we have more freedom to Make our own mistakes. and then we need to learn to live with the consequences. up there some one is always responsible and there is always someone to sue when your house gos rolling down a cliff and into the sea.

all I'm saying is think and do a lot of research before you buy or build. and bring on the storms please I am ready.:light:

NONE of your concerns or discussions will have any effect on the Storm's Track or intensity.

If you check the water temps. you will see that there is no way that it can git up here with any strength.

What part of the Santa Rosalia/Mulege River floods and when did this last happen. I see places along the River such as The Oasis, and others. Are they subject to flooding? Where is the flood plain?

bajaandy - 5-31-2006 at 11:10 AM

Hey woody.... heading down for the race this weekend? We're going, both to watch race cars and in hopes of getting some of that southern hemi headed our way.

yes they get there feet wet in these little floods that we have had in the past twenty to thirty years. but when the big one comes normaley every 30 years we are over due, most of downtown Mulege will get water and along the river will be gone.

Sounds like a pretty accurate appraisal to me, Bruce. And it will happen again.
