Hey there. I'm writing up a travel newsletter that is covering the surge in popularity in driving from the boarder to Cabo, moreover, from San Ysidro to Cabo. I want to get an idea of the different type of trips that people have had and the budgets that went with them.

If you have made the trip to Cabo from the border, please give a moderately brief overview of your trip. Cover things such as how many days your round trip was, what car you were driving, how much insurance you bought, whether you camped or rented hotel rooms, what KIND of rooms you rented, the types of places you ate, how much drinking/dancing you were doing, how much equipments was purchased (for fishing, etc.), the amount you spent on gas, what essentials you may have been traveling with, and any unexpected pitfalls along the way.

Along with that please tell us how much you THOUGHT you would be spending and then approximately how much you ACTUALLY spent. A number of stories will be considered for publishing in the newsletter with a chance to be on the cover. Everyone who submits will receive a free subscription if the newsletter publisher picks up these stories. Please submit for more information.

SyntaxJO welcome to the Baja Nomads Forum. the best thing for you to do is search this Forum. there are thousands of really good trip reports already here. I am sure you will get all the info you need.

Yes, by logging on to the appropriate Message Board and asking a question, or doing a search, the modern 21st Century writer can write expert, informative articles on almost anything. That's just so cool!

How can one write a travel article without experencing it. Only believing what others can tell him. No hands on. thats like building an airplane by reading someones manual. :!:

Ok, it takes me 10 days there and back. I usually go through the same amount of money in fuel and in bribes as I would of spent flying to Cabo. My advice is to tell everyone to fly to Cabo. There is nothing in between the US and Cabo thats worth your vacation time or risking your life for.

Yes, if your goal is to get to Cabo San Lucas you should probably just fly. To learn anything about the space between the border and CSL, you should spend weeks stumbling around. And if CSL is what you are looking forward to-- the beaches, the big boats, the $6 margaritas and the Ruth Chris Steak House, you probably won't enjoy the middle.

Oh! Had I known he was so young, I wouldn't have been such an a$$.

Jordon: We are beseiged here between TJ and Cabo with promoters who have no experience and no knowledge other that "Hey, maybe I can make a buck." (Or a couple million.) We see many silly travel articles and "news" stories that are little more than spam for developers.

On the other hand, there is great respect on this board for people who have spent time, gained experience, and shared those experiences through their writing. Jimmy Smith, Ray Cannon, and on this site Baja Bernie and Mike Humfreville are some examples.

So get out there, do stuff, write about it, but don't write about what us old farts are doing. Write about what you are doing.

Cabo San Lucas is NOT THE ONLY reason anyone should go to Baja... In fact, Cabo is at the TIP of the peninsula so it makes it possible to see ALL of the rest of the wonderful peninsula without EVER entering Cabo... which is about as much about Baja or Mexico as is Las Vegas is about the USA.

Fun maybe, but not a good example of the entire place.

The magazine could include many feature articles on dozens of places beteen the BORDER and the TIP... However, that is probably not what the editor has in mind. Instead of a multiple issue series, maybe just a paragraph on such places as Ensenada, The San Pedro Martir mountain park (where condors have been returned), San Quintin and El Rosario (the second great festival in coming in July), the greatest collection of native desert vegetaion in the world, remote beaches, the island filled Bay of Los Angeles, old mission ruins, huge pre-historic Indian rock art sites, the oasis villages, and on and on....

#1. Yes, I have driven to Cabo from the border.

#2. Yes, more and more people in the area I live are talking about making the drive.

#3. NO. I DON'T want to fly, flying is for lazy tourists who have no sense of adventure (unless you're flying yourself)

#4. Between TJ and Cabo is AMAZING! In fact, experiencing all of those locations is way better than Cabo. Cabo is simply a final destination.

#5. I'm F**ING young and want more kiddies my age to experience Baja, especially those who live two steps away from it.

#6. No drinking? No dancing? Level with me here. You all didn't grow up thinking Prohibition was FUN? Come on guys!!! Where's that sense of excitment!?

#7. To whomever made that MySpace crack you probably should think about joining, who knows, instead of farting around and making fun of young people you might get laid for once.

Take it easy guys. I'm glad I could give you a minute of fun but MAN! Can we settle down please?... But! Such is life, I guess I need to get some material elsewhere, you guys have fun doing whatever it is you do in Baja. I'll see you on the road! :moon:

SyntaxJO - this IS what they do for fun. Whatever you write, don't use the word "amazing." The word is so overused, it has no meaning anymore. ok - if you and your friends want to experience Baja, please put the word out that it is, foremost, a place to be respected and protected.

Big deal. Guys have been writing stirring magazine pieces about driving "the Ba-haw" without actually doing so for at least forty years.

But asking for that much specific information isn't too cool.
