Bill of sale

What paper work is needed for bringing an old refrigerator into Baja? Do I need to claim it? I will be entering at San Ysidro.

Thank you for any info.

I have no idea of the value. My parents have had it about 10 years. Does anyone know if I need to declare it or can I drive on through.

TJ probably won't take it...

you'll need to go to Otay...

don't drive thru...you risk losing the truck

if you don't know the value then you better declare it and they will put a value on it for you . years ago I tried to import a freezer and they would not let me. I don't know why. If I were you I would call a broker first and get the strait skinny. it may be more trouble than it is worth. you can always sell it and get a better one here.

call a thrift shop and ask what they would get for it. A 10 yr old fridge is worth less than $100. Our neighbors just moved all their stuff from Los Angeles and went through San Ysidro with no problem . Go to the to Declare Lane and ask if you need to declare it. Make up a receipt on your computer - If they want you to declare it you only have to pay a small tax, like 15%. Take your sunglasses off and look them in the eye when you speak to the agent!

Old Refrigerators

The last time I took an old Servel South, I declared it at $50.00. Of course, it was 55 years old.

It's a mystery to me why Bruce wasn't allowed to import a freezer, but there is some capriciousness to Mexican customs enforcement. During the period 1982 through 2002 I "imported" Six Servel Gas refrigerators, a 7cu.ft. Norcold 3-way, a Haier 4 cu.ft. Chest Freezer and my 16 cu.ft. Sun Frost. Declared every one of them and paid either "Mordida" or duty depending on the circumstances at the time. No Problem.

Don't confuse the issue, just go through the declare lane tell them you bought it at a garage sale for $50.00 or whatever.

Comitan has the correct answer
