The motorcycle team of Steve Hengeveld, Johnny Campbell and Andy Grider won the SCORE Baja 1000 desert race Friday in La Paz, Baja California.
The California motorcyclists finished the 1,017-mile course in a record 16 hours, 17 minutes, 28 seconds at an average speed of 62.45 mph.
The team of Dan Smith and David Ashley had the top four-wheel vehicle in the race. They finished second overall and won the Trophy Truck class in
16:19:03.

Teammates Dan Smith and David Ashley won their third Baja 1000 in a row with a record-setting average speed of 62.34 mph for this year?s 1017-mile
course down the length of the Baja peninsula from Ensenada to La Paz. Smith and Ashley drove their Ford F-150 to the finish line in 16 hours, 19
minutes and three seconds. Brothers Ed and Tim Herbst crossed the line 45 minutes later in another F-150 for second place.
Third overall for four-wheeled vehicles was the team of Mike Julson and Bob Lofton in a Chevy-powered Jimco, just 11 seconds behind the Herbsts. The
multitalented Robby Gordon was seventh overall in another F-150.
Bikes, as usual, were first across the line, with Honda teammates Steve Hengeveld, Johnny Campbell and Andy Grider getting their XR650R to La Paz in
16 hours, 17 minutes and 28 seconds.
