Inside Baja

With Baja being so beautiful most photos are taken outside. Here, however, I've taken a few inside. They may not be great but they might be interesting and I'll bet some of you haven't seen them before.

Cardon is that the copper mine in SR? I always wanted to take a look around it, but wasnt sure if it was ok. Great pics

What a wonderful timepiece, Judy. If that were in the states, I'd say it was an old railroad station. I'll be interested to find where you photo was taken.

All these photos are neat. I really like pictures of old mechanical equipment - so many neat angles, plus the play of shadow and light.

That's quite a nice skylight Morgaine7... your place?

Thes pics were taken off the beaten track- about 60 feet off. I parked by the marina in Santa Rosalia and walked about 60 feet across the street to the copper refinery. I thought I'd just stick my camera thru a gap in the wall to take some pics but I noticed an open door and I also noticed no one was around so I just walked right on in. As I stood inside I couldn't help but feel the spirits of the men who had worked and sweated there for years. I guess they were lucky to have a job but WOW how could they stand it?

I remember passing by the refinery in the 70's in June in an non-airconditioned car. We were suffering from the heat but couldn't help but feel sorry for the men working inside- it must have been hell on earth for them.

I, too, have always wanted to stop and take a few shots inside that old building. Now I will.

This is another abandoned building that I am sure used to bustle with activity

Nena
Is yours from La Paz, perhaps

Bruce, Show him these pictures and have him tell stories about them. Then share those stories with us if you could.
Thanks,
Craig

I am not an engineer, but that building from the photos still looks structurally sound. Wow. I wonder why it is not being used for something?

Bruce R Leech - 7-7-2006 at 03:54 PM

Here is the way in. I didn't see any No Trespassing signs but it might be off limits.

Great photos. I thought that might be the place but there could be more. Lots of mining/mills in Baja

bajajudy - 7-7-2006 at 08:08 PM

Thanks, Cardon. I will definitely try to get in.

Nena, the clock is in the museum in Santa Rosalia, which is a very interesting way to loll away a few hours. They have all kinds of artifacts from the old mining days and some amazing photos.

The other photo is from the old pier in Guerrero Negro right next to the lighthouse in the "Name that lighthouse" thread.... I have a self portrait from that day but I cant find it.
