Doug or anyone that can help

Bruce R Leech - 7-14-2006 at 09:51 AM

when I travel I cant sign on to the Baja Nomads Forum from any of the Internet caf?s ,but I get in fine from my home computer. what if anything am I doing wrong while I am on the rode?

Sharksbaja - 7-14-2006 at 11:13 AM

Are you logging in with your password/name properly? I know that I was having trouble till I capitalized Sharksbaja.

Bruce R Leech - 7-14-2006 at 11:42 AM

yes I thought of that also but that is not it .

A while back something happened that I could not get on even from home and after about a week of checking Doug told me that there was something wrong with some address for my computer or something. so he did something that allowed me to sign on again. but now I can only sign on from this computer not any others. I don't understand all this Internet stuff.:?:

complicated to say the least

Sharksbaja - 7-14-2006 at 01:26 PM

IP addresses can be blocked/disallowed but that would not pertain to you logging in on/from another computer. Or would it?:?:
Maybe your log-in info is corrupted on the server. Did you try from across the street? I was posting from there months back successfully.

bajabound2005 - 7-14-2006 at 03:51 PM

are you getting to the website itself? is it just when you try to log in that there is a problem?

BajaNomad - 7-14-2006 at 04:00 PM

Bruce,

I need more information as to what you're experiencing to understand the problem more fully.

Essentially, if you can get to the forums, the only thing preventing you from logging in would be the wrong username/password, or a computer having security settings that would block the cookie needed to identify you.

what if you are logged on with your home computor and you try another can you still log on, basically from two locations?

I've done that with no problems

BajaNomad - 7-14-2006 at 06:46 PM

Bruce,

Are you certain you know what your password is?

Bruce R Leech - 7-14-2006 at 07:00 PM

yes I think I do

BajaNomad - 7-14-2006 at 07:03 PM

Can you log out at home and then successfully log back in with the username and password?

Bruce R Leech - 7-14-2006 at 07:41 PM

yes no problem I do it every day and I just tried it again.

Bruce R Leech - 7-14-2006 at 07:42 PM

Doug I will be on the road again next week and I will try it from several places.

bajabound2005 - 7-14-2006 at 07:48 PM

Check the keyboards from where you are trying to log in --- different keyboards (read those for SPANISH language are way different than ours - lots of additional keys for additional accents and letters). That can throw you off when typing in your id and password. Try to find the @ sign!

Porky Pig - 7-14-2006 at 07:49 PM

try bruse leeche

Anonymous - 7-14-2006 at 09:34 PM

I'm AGAIN having the same problem, UGH!

Debra (aka the orphan)

BajaNomad - 7-15-2006 at 08:24 AM

Debra,

So, you can't remember the password, or ???

---------------

Bruce,

If you know the username/password (as you use it every day), then at those times it's not working - are you getting an error message, or what happens?

Thanks.

Bruce R Leech - 7-15-2006 at 08:28 AM

Doug I will let you know Monday when I am in Ensenada.

David K - 7-15-2006 at 09:39 AM

Bruce (and Debra, others), you do not need to log off Nomad from your personal computer every time you leave here!

Bruce, why do you do that (log off evey day), or is your computer used by others who may go onto Nomad?

Even IF you do log off (or use another PC to view Nomad, like at an Internet cafe), with your password, just log on.

Have an easy password, if you did not change the complicated one you get assigned, do so! All of this is done in the Control Panel (top right corner of each Nomad page).

Debra - 7-15-2006 at 09:40 AM

I don't know what the problem was Doug, I tried both passwords that I would use and it still didn't know me. The problem seems to come (as with Bruce) when I switch computers....anyway, tried the 'handy-dandy' "forgot Password" button and I'm all fixed now.....problem is tho, when traveling it's sometimes hard to get back to a computer 24hrs. later to get the new password....."Nomads" has been my life-line when 'big stuck' in Baja. I get a little paranoid when I can't log in! :( ..........anyway, you do a great service for all of us, and I thank you!

Debra - 7-15-2006 at 09:43 AM

David, I don't ever log off, sometimes it just does it. I always change the password that Doug sends to one of two.....just get hung up with different computers for sone reason.

This site/software uses "cookies" to identify users. If you can log in successfully, your machine accepts the cookie and allows this site to read the cookie from your machine.

If you cannot successfully log in, and there is no error (like for a wrong password), then it is likely the machine you're at has a security setting that is blocking the cookie from BajaNomad.

Sometimes cookies get corrupted, and it takes deleting the BajaNomad Forums cookie on the machine you're at.

Cookies also expire. So, if you log in without logging out and then one day find you're logged out, the cookie expired.

The cookie on the old version of this software had a 90 day cookie. I've forgotten what it is currently, but is likely 30 or 90 days.

Bruce R Leech - 7-15-2006 at 11:16 AM

I think my cookies are getting old and expiring

bajamigo - 7-15-2006 at 12:41 PM

Or the machine you're using is set not to accept cookies. If possible, check the "Tools, Internet Options, Security" setting. You may not be able to do anything about it, but at least you'll know for sure whether the problem is yours or the cafe's.

bajabound2005 - 7-15-2006 at 06:56 PM

Bruce, when you're in Ensenada area - if you need any assistance of any kind, please let us know. We are out in Punta Banda. Also are going a Spanish Immersion class this week, Mon-Fri, but happy to give you any advice, etc....

Doug do you think My cookies are getting to old?

Anonymous - 7-19-2006 at 09:32 AM

that was me Bruce

BajaNomad - 7-19-2006 at 11:21 AM

The cookie is specific to each computer that you login from, so no.

This could be wrong, but it seems that the security settings of these public computers is set high enough that they are blocking the cookies and therefore not allowing you to login.

Bruce R Leech - 7-28-2006 at 06:30 AM

that is probably about what is going on Doug . but this forum is the only one I have the problem with. do you know what there is here on the Baja nomad forum that would kick those filters in?
