The recent closing of Camp Gecko has sunk my life-long camping/fishing buddy into a deep Baja funk ? that place was so perfect for us that he can?t
imagine going anywhere else. On top of all this, he was diagnosed with prostrate cancer a week before our last trip and is now just recovering from
surgery. I have been given the task to find a replacement for Gecko before our October trip and as you can imagine, I want to hit it right on this
trip as the specter of wondering just how many trips are left for us sits on my shoulder. We are looking for all places in the entire length of Baja,
both sides, that are similar to the upgraded or ?fancy? cabins at Gecko. For those of you not familiar, these are walled, roofed units, detached,
with a small rustic kitchen, attached bath w/shower and sleeping quarters. The following are important to us:
1. Refrigerator.
2. Onsite or very near-by launch ?ramp? for 18? alum boat (heavy).
3. Within a 30 minute drive to a tienda w/ ice and a taco shack.
4. On the beach.
5. No motels, condos or metro areas.
6. Ability to reserve a unit with some reassurance that the onsite folks actually know about the reservation and then will honor it.
Individual homes, trailers etc are OK, but we are partial to the ?camp? atmosphere where I can get my morning coffee and walk around the camp and say
?good morning? to the other early risers or make the evening c-cktail walk.
I would appreciate any help you can give me. Also, please keep comments to yourself regarding how your way of visiting Baja is so much better that
our way; how we are limiting ourselves to what/where/when we can go; why didn?t we sign up to lease a spot; Gecko-type places are a thing of the past,
etc. We know and agree with you ? just don?t need to hear it right now.
Thanks guys?.

There is another thread here that offers good advice. People seem to like Archelon, just around the fence and north of the turtle sanctuary. There
is also Daggets and then Rachael and Larry's. The La Gringa road is paved passed both those camps so it'll be easy going. I don't have e-mail or
phone numbers (which likely don't exist). If you can't find something you are comfortable with e-mail me or post again. Reportedly, Doc still has a
couple of rentabe spaces. Are you coming down with Andy? When?
