Skeet,

You copy has some value but not the value you have placed on it. It is a very common popular Baja book. Very desireable interesting book for the Baja researcher, traveler or resident. It is so common that very good reading copies may be otained for as little as a dollar--or less.

There are several editions that are collectable and desireable to the bibliophile. They are as follows;

1) "The log from the sea of Cortez" 1941.
This was the first edition and very desireable

2) "The log from the sea of cortez reissued with a profile of Ed Ricketts" 1951
Some consider this the more collectable therefore its value is as great or sometimes even greater than the first edition

The above books do not display LCC or ISBN numbers. They were published by The Viking Press in New York City.

3) "The log from the sea of cortez reissued with a profile of Ed Ricketts" published by Heineman of London England in 1958. It has some value but not as much as the first two.

The value of these books have remained stable at $500.00 and up for many many years and will certainly increase in value as interest in Baja increases.

Value of collectable books are based on a number of factors;
Condition-condition and condition
Edition
Dust jacket intact
Signed or inscribed
Economy of the world

Your book as I recall was a 1968 with torn dust cover described as "Excellent Condition." It is a reader-- nothing more and nothing less. Enjoy it and allow your friends and neighbors to also enjoy reading it. Nevertheless, I wish you well in your quest for instant wealth from the sale of this book.

Didn't you post this some time ago and I also responded?
