Baja travel

Baja has been part of us since 1975 (or we have been addicted to it since then).

House at La Salina - Angel's Camp -

Worked dozens of Score races in the most remote locations in the mid 70s and 80s.

Have had so many wonderful experiences - way too many to recall.

Even our sole difficult time when my wife ended up in jail never detered us from heading south.

Now that is changing. I'm not certain whether we just won't go for awhile or what. Still undecided when trying to balance the scales.

Be careful, be smart - unfortunately the bad guys play by different rules.

A sad week indeed.

This will not stop me, but my trip is not until November. If it is this bad then, I can only hope to find someone going down too. I am very flexible.
I have emailed as accurately as I can, the events to:
Fox
CNN
ABC
CBS
NBC

Baja is in my blood and there are other roads besides Hwy. 1 to get you there...

When the story about the fellow who was driving his friend's rig while his friend rested and hit the military transport (which was on the wrong side of the line, near San Vicente) came out... with all the details of jail time, Wild Bill bringing him things, etc. until the insurance finally did its part, well I wasn't so sure I wanted to risk such an event...

After a couple of weeks and making sure I had plenty of legal coverage in my annual insurance policy, I returned to Baja.

Yes, people get shot in the U.S. ALL the time... The difference is that in America, THINGS work... the police do a complete investigation right away, you are innocent until proven guilty, you can protect yourself with a firearm... etc.

Mexico (Baja) is the opposite... maybe it is that hint of danger, risk we take, excitement of the unknown that has us go nuts about the place that logic would dictate otherwise.

I am very sad for the shootings... and I am in no hurry to go south...
(I was actually planning on showing Baja Angel the observatory this weekend)... well, at least for a couple of weeks!

Nomads, use your own judgement... You know if the tourism rate does decline right now from the shootings of people we know, then action will be taken to bring us back... the $$$ is a strong motivator to get things done!
