Los Barriles conditions
ViajeraGal - 9-2-2006 at 03:14 PM
I live in Los Barriles but am currently in Pennsylvania and just received a short email from another who has a house there which said a lot of damage,
loss of vehicles, allegedly 2 dead from trying to cross one of the arroyos; and that the hurricane hit them 'from behind', being from the west.oxxo - 9-2-2006 at 03:25 PM

First, I am very sorry about the loss of property and life in Los Barriles. I hope that the loss of life and property does not grow as the days go
by.
It makes sense that the wind hit from the west. The hurricane spins in a counter clockwise direction in the northern hemisphere. If the eye passed
just north of Barriles then the wind would have come from the west. If the eye had passed to the south of Barriles, the winds would have come from
the east.
I hope that things get back to normal as soon as possible.Eli - 9-3-2006 at 10:49 AM
Phone is out both office and home so dang, no news from home, Buenos Aires, L.B.
My gut tells me that my family is life and limb alright, but I am on hold in regard to our house, building projects and my sweet little gallery, ah
sigh........., I know, I know, that the family is o.k., and that is all that really matters.
Alas, I must admit that I awoke at 4 a.m. from a dreamed arguement with some old fishermen rednecks as to the validity of a net over a palapa, I have
never been in favor of them, an argument I would rather address another day. In fin, if dreams speak to us, mine did tell me that the palapa over my
little studio is either gone or most surly damaged. Ah well, I hope that is the extent of it.
I look forward to hearing from the family, in the meanwhile, thanks to everyone for keeping us on the outside abreast to the situation.
O.k., I am going to try the phone again, ni modo...........

I think getting from SJD to Lp is going to be difficult for the short term. I know that right now Highway 19 towards Todos santos is cut off just
south of Rancho Nuevo and several places below Elias Calles. I don't know exactly where the breaks are on the barilles side towards LP but i know
numerous sections are cut. I would think they are going to get the pacific side passable first. As soon as I hear about he current conditions on
Highway 19 I will postBajabus - 9-3-2006 at 11:15 AM
Here is a shot of highway 19 just below Rancho Nuevo, notice the police truck and car:

Well, I finally got a call from my daughter, my palapa did not fly, no damage to our home, only minor damage on projects checked to date and although
we lost some trellis at the VOS building, no damge to interior or my gallery So, with first hand knowledge that the family and properties are fine, of
course, so am I. Whew!!!! Sometimes, I think it is harder when you are not there, ya know!jeans - 9-3-2006 at 01:37 PM
Oh Sara, I'm so glad to hear that your family, home & gallery are fine and you are no longer worried!

I just got confirmation that gas trucks and other vehicles are now moving between La Paz and SJD via highway 19.Skeet/Loreto - 9-3-2006 at 03:50 PM
Hey Bus! Great Job! I am hoping that Loreto and Mulege are not as they were in 76 with Lisa. No reports , no phone lines open at this time, just the
Photo fro Erdhart.

Jeans & Kate,Me too, so glad we escaped, whew, one of these days, VOS Otros too will get the pie in the face, when you live in hurricane country
it is just a matter of when it is your turn, I expect..... Still, we are on high ground but not on top a hill, that could help a little I guess. As
one never ever, ever knows where it is going to hit from, it is kind of a matter of which way the wind was blowing when it got to ya.
I have this not even proven theory that without a net, the palapa lifts and falls, breathing with the winds so to speak......... yep, right, dang,
who knows. I have set outside on my porch which faces South east and watched some beautiful storms and than on another, couldn't even get my foot out
the door.
Anyway, apart from being kind of gleeful at not catching the sh#t when it flew this time, I know many were not so lucky and my heart truly does go out
to you that are shaking your heads as you clean up the mess, sure am glad it was just stuff lost and not life and limbs, (that is unless you were a
tree), hope everyone is weathering it o.k., and dont let the scitters get ya, dangee is one of scariest part of a hurricane I expect.
YaAll take care now, Sarabajajudy - 9-4-2006 at 06:57 PM
My friends from Los Barriles came to San Jose today for supplies and said that the road was fine. They also said that La Rivera had been hit hard.
They have no power, water and very little food or drinking water.
The eye passed right over them. They said after the calm of the eye that the southern eye wall sounded like a freight train.
