Mulege Relief Info for San Diego Union Newspaper

lindsay - 9-6-2006 at 07:12 AM

I posted this last night and I think that it ended up in one of the other threads but please contact Sandra Dibble (her info is below) with any relief effort info. Below is my posting from last night!!

I have been checking all the various posts concerning Mulege relief efforts and I also contacted SD Union Tribune staff writer, Sandra Dibble, who writes articles focusing on Baja California for the paper. She wants to follow up on the needs in Mulege since this story has not been reported in the SD area or US news. She asked me to pass on any contacts in Mulege or those of you who are organizing relief efforts from the U.S. So, if you are involved in these efforts, please call her at 619-293-1716 or e-mail her at sandra.dibble@uniontrib.com

I think that getting the message out about what is urgently needed and how to aid Mulege via the SD Union could help more people become aware of the situation. I also gave her the baja nomads website as a reference for info on the devastation in the area. So, let's hope that this story gets out and others will join all the great efforts here to help out!!

I did very much same thing with BBC, sent them Pic's of the situation and a short report.
ANYONE who has NEW pic's of Muleges situation ( the ones from 4th an 5th of Spetember on this board are already sent)
Send them off to BBC - mail it to: yourpics@bbc.co.uk
OR log in on the website of BBC - HAVE YOUR SAY is a forum for such things!!!
There are at least 2 UK citizen I know of, who are (have been) located in MULEGE, one died. That will catch their interest.

Good work you two!

Thanks Sandra!!

Elgatoloco, thanks for your post and it was great to see Sandra from the SD Union get this story in the paper within a day. She called me Tues. am and today it's in the paper so hopefully this news will spread and add to the relief efforts.

I was also trying to remember if you are in SD yourself?? I think that soon there will be some relief heading out of SD and I'm hoping that clothes I'm collecting from the school I work at and friends can make it down via SD or TJ. Post here if you know of any soon to be leaving SD based relief. I keep checking other postings so we'll see what comes together.

Good work

Good work Lindsay!
Today I emailed the SD Union Reporter, Sandra Dibble (the link was at the bottom of the article), and said practically the exact same thing. I thanked her for being the first. I also urged her to follow up this still breaking story which is a crisis. Time is of the essence. I also gave her the bajanomad URL.

I saw a post this afternoon that said an unnamed SD Union reporter wants to ride to Mulege tomorrow AM with one of the Baja Bush Pilots. Lindsay, is that Sandra? So, you really got the ball rolling.

maybe others would like to > have their say< as well.
Or recommend my posting there, that would raise the interest of BBC for this issue! And for the Photos and the report I sent yesterday and today.

I e-mailed Sandra with some photos from the area that have been on this site and bajaquest site so hopefully she will be able to follow up with relief efforts so people who want to participate in those efforts can. I also saw the Bush Pilot posting and don't know if that is her but it may be...

Take care everyone and best wishes to all who are dealing with personal loses and assisting those in need in the area!!

New Article on Mulege & Relief Efforts

lindsay - 9-8-2006 at 07:41 AM

Just saw on-line that Sandra Dibble has written an update about the situation in Mulege and added some info about relief efforts. For those of you in SD who have time, send her a quick e-mail thanking her because she has really been responsive to getting this story out!!

Here's the link to the story, hope it works. Otherwise go to the Mexico section of the SD Union at www.signonsandiego.com or it should also be in today's regular paper too.

thanks for all your caring and hard work lindsay you are a true Nomad

Thank you Bruce and it's hard to be up here when I know how difficult a time it is for all of you there...it's a cliche to say but it's true that the best in people can come out in the worst of times and I think that we have seen that this weeek.

I hope that the SD Union articles get people in this area to help out as so many from our area have spent time in Mulege or lived there. After living in Mulege for 2 years and having Sara's relatives there, it is a second home with many dear friends so we are thinking of all of you and will continue to be here to help out even if we are not physically with you!!

I know that you are busy but since you are across the street from Nelly's store, if you see her could please give her my best wishes and tell her that I'm thinking of her and all the family. I've spoken to her parents and Francisco, her brother but I don't have her current cell number and the house phone is not in service. Thanks and if she has a cell number that you could U2U me that would be great....as I said before I know that you are SUPER busy but if you have time and she's across the street in the store that would be great!!

Take care and best wishes from San Diego

the fire Dept. says they Have more clothing than they know what to do with.

they need bedding, plastic tarps, disposable plats, cups and spoons. , tents and things to set up temp housing Propane stoves and camping type gear.

also it would be a good time to get rid of those old propane tanks that don't work in the US anymore.
