I'm trying to leave San Juanico for Loreto on Thursday morning and head South via Insurgentes. Any reports about the road being opened/closed? I'm
getting conflicting information here.
A bunch of us were able to punch through to Purisima yestarday across the arroyo, but it was a day event. Purisima and San Isidro was hit pretty hard
as well.
Photo taken yesterday around 2:00 pm.

Road Update Friday, September 8th
Juan del Rio - 9-8-2006 at 11:47 AM
Was finally able to leave San Juanico yesterday and drive to Loreto for the Alaska flight (only 28 people on-board) back to LAX. Overall, the road is
is fair shape once you cross the Purisima River from San Juanico. Lots of potholes, detours and water still flowing from in and around the Purisima
region. La Purisima, San Isdiro, La Poza Grande have a lot of damage from reports I received. North road from San Juanico is a mess as well. The
ranchers from San Juanico were going back yesterday to check it out. I heard someone was going to make an attempt from San Ignacio in via the North
Road. I have no other information at this time on the North road. South road in is doable if you have high clearence and a stomach for high water
flowing fast and trust in rocks you can't see. The photo attached was taken yesterday morning, right before a deep hole that comes up to about
lower-mid-door on a Land Cruiser. I crossed in a 1989 1/2 ton 4x4 Suburban and went through with no problem...after I walked the river crossing to
find out where the holes are. There were many of us from town that came to work the river early in the week to fill the holes in with rocks. With the
rains in the mountains in the afternoons, the water continues to flow in the area...use caution, but people are doing it. Have fun!

La Purisima Rio with volunteers from San Juanico attempting to punch through to the other side. Water has gone down some, but contines to flow pretty
hard. This is the worse spot of the crossing as you head from La Purisima going to San Juanico.
Yesterday at Santo Domingo:

No problem with a truck. Tractor is there for vehicles with low clearence...not sure of the cost to be pulled across.
Around km 10 just East of Insurgentes

Juan,
Were you able to punch through on the East Road to the hwy? I understand some racers prerunning that section were stranded with the rains, and had to
ride out on horseback to the hwy.
A miracle worker, I'm not...
Juan del Rio - 9-10-2006 at 04:48 PM
...it was tough enough to punch through on the South Road! I heard the same thing about being stranded on the East Road. No other reports at this
time. If I hear of any news, I'll post.
