David K - 9-8-2006 at 09:36 PM

'THINK (you know) BAJA' looks great... I have only thumbed through my copy but I have seen numerous mentions of Baja Nomads, Doug, JR, Baja Cactus, The Bajarunner, and more!

Available from http://www.mibaja.com

I am looking forward to reading this one!

Thanks Bernie!!

Oh Boy! Where can I get my copy? :bounce:

David K - 9-9-2006 at 11:05 AM

Bernie's web site is http://www.mibaja.com

The book isn't shown there yet... Bernie is letting Doug (his web host) get some rest after the Nomad repair of recent!

Is it too late to change the cover?

thebajarunner - 9-9-2006 at 11:44 AM

I think my "cover" is about to be busted...

Oh well, let 'er rip, Bernie!!

Seriously, it looks great to finally be a reality....
lots of hours, lots of nit-picking...
folks are really going to enjoy the finished product
IMHO

Now go sell a million copies so my royalty will kick in!

You think it will still be safe to be seen on the street?

David K - 9-9-2006 at 02:03 PM

Well, I didn't see your photo in the book!!! LOL

I knew I forgot something when I put the book together--But, then, pictures with numbers under them leave something to be desired. And he probably could not get a Sentri pass.

Bernie,

Congradulations! I hope the book makes it to S. Baja by the time I do, I look forward to adding it to my collection.

Ready to ship the book?

thebajarunner - 9-12-2006 at 08:54 AM

Bernie,
We are anxiously awaiting first viewing of the book.
Is it ready to ship?

The actual covers are in TIF form but they are just too big to be sending in emails or even here. I'll keep your comment in mind the next time I work with them.
Thank you.

David K - 9-21-2006 at 09:58 AM

Thanks Larry... JPEG was used for showing the book cover here only since thats how most photos are stored from my file... Not intended for reproduction or close up work from the Nomad post. I haven't tried changing and reducing it from GIF, it looked fine on the monitor as a jpeg.

Pretty subjective, of course-- Most folks probably wouldn't notice it at all but I looked at the cover and said "yecch, look at all those jpeg artifacts, that's GROSS"; just a matter of experience. BUT, I do believe that people actually notice that stuff on a subliminal level and it affects their overall experience even if they can't figure out why, so it's important to pay attention in places where that might matter...

Saludos-- Larry

Thanks again Larry, as you are in the 'know' on this... My slogan is "you can't judge a book by its cover" ! (I think I may have seen that phrase before, so don't give me credit for it!

So folks, do not judge Bernie's book by my (less than professional) use of JPEG for displaying the cover!

Damn

Baja Bernie - 9-21-2006 at 08:59 PM

My cover is done in the Tif format that 'all' good printers require or they will not print the book, they are at 600dpi's all illustrations are the same only at 300 dpi. I was hoping that you folks would be interested in what is said in the book rather than being hung up on format--the format is much better than the Romance/mystery novels most of us are used to and the pages will not fall out.

Hey! Larry, my tech guy suddenly found out that he was not a guy and decided to leave.

I need someone with your smarts to help birth my next book--Interested??????No, not joking, but I probably can not afford you.

Okay! Lencho why don't you buy one of my books, read it and then critique it as it relates to cover clearity and more importantly content.

I am attempting to tell a few important and interesting stories that I believe Baja folks will enjoy reading and will be proud to place in their bookcases and share with friends.

Sorry, David but those in the industry know that 85% of the sale of a book is the cover and its ability to cause someone to reach out and pick it up. I design my covers to do exactly that--no boring colors to cover my books. The 15% inside is much more important to me because, as you know, I write from the heart--but the cover sells first.

How about now we look at what the book is about!

Edited part--just noticed David saying it was his fault on placing a Jpeg on this board--I sent it to him, Sunbelt Publishing, Doug, and any other numbers of people in Jpeg because that is simple and dirty and will work on the media it was sent on. Tif's which go to the printer have to be either sent on CD's or through their special emails that do not time out due to size. No one did anything wrong in using Jpegs as a simple shortcut. Yes, Gif's would be more perfect--but this is not a perfect world.

Tell me how I attach a Tif to a u-2-u.

Who or what is a beta tester?

David K - 1-7-2007 at 08:19 PM

Have all you Nomads added Bernie's third book to your bookcase?

Look to these pages for my review, coming soon!

It's a fun read that features several of YOU people (Nomads) and great stories from Baja!!!

Get the book and learn the significance of this picture.

My internationally famous wheelbarrow.

There was a lot of fun stuff in Bernie's book.

Glad you are posting again! Noticed you dropped out of sight right after my book was published and thought that you may have decided to lay low because of the book.
:?::?::?::?::?:

David, Thanks for the comments. I think I hope to see your review soon.

It should be 'letter' perfect because the bajarunner proofed it for me.

You are right about about a lot of Nomad folks being mentioned......................Heck six of them are guest authors with all of the privileges that attach.

Speaking of authors--has anyone seen or heard from pompano lately?

Seriously, each of them wrote great story's. Thanks again!

vgabndo - 1-8-2007 at 01:58 PM

Bernie...I don't have THAT much to hide!

We just returned from 43 days in San Nicolas. I'm still suffering all the normal depression that follows that dismal transition.:(

From talking about Bernie's new book to comments on how I reduced the cover scan to meet Nomad restrictions (which has nothing to do with Bernie or his cool new book), this thread sure went weird!

Because it got focussed on scanning and reducing, I tried it Larry's way: "David (and anybody else who's interested)--

Tech note:

You can get a lot better results on images that have text and line drawings, if you use GIF instead of JPG;"

Here is the scanned cover coverted to GIF and then reduced to under 50 kbs for Nomad posting...

I think the JPEG version looks better, no black dots all over... Oh well...

Now, on the the book review (on a new thread)... stay tuned!
