Digging out

Sharksbaja - 9-10-2006 at 02:23 AM

As many Nomads already know our house sustained a large amount of damage. It was a miracle our home stood at all though the torrents and bombardment.
As the rio swings through the narrows just west of our casa, it squeezed all that water into a wall of water 20+ ft:O deep. The water picked up speed and squirted through everything upstream that the flood picked up.
That included homes, vehicles , lrg tanks, cows and everything else it pushed thru the community.
This torrent was directed towards the paths of least resistance at a high speed. One path took stuff right into the casa next door Dave Becker's place:
The force was incredible and the bombardment from objects literally exploded the larger palapa home. Only one column stands upright while the complete house is gone.

When that house gave way it took out our heavy fence and our big garage. That left our house exposed to the force from the mighty current. Hardly anything not attached or anchored permanently, is gone.:(

Roberto told me the house was stout and built with straps and tie-downs and mucho rebar. After looking at the explicit photos of our neighbors I am convined we bought the right house.

It is a mess alright and really strange how and what the force did. We will get down when it is prudent, according to some the sludge deposited 3ft thick in our kitchen is a toxic brew. It will be a real headache. At least we have something. Our hearts go out to the less fortunate who have nothing to dig out. I am so sorry Den. Corky

Ditto Morgaine7!! If empathy and good wishes from all of us are helping to support
your work...you've certainly got ours!
I heard a saying last night that keeps rolling in my head "If you are lucky enough to
live by the ocean... you are lucky enough!" I wonder if everyone would agree!!

Ditto x2 from me as well.

If I was there, I would help you dig out. This is all so sad.

I have many pics of what I believe is your neighbors house that I took when we were down during Spring Break. There was a 'For Sale' sign on it and the housekeepers were there and allowed me to take some pics. If this is the same house and they need some before pics I would be happy to send them to you. Feel free to U2U me if needed.

Again, our thoughts are with you.

Wasn't that Sparky's house, the one Teri was renting?

Sparky sold #42..

Sharksbaja - 9-11-2006 at 01:56 AM

I was told to someone in Oregon Tony. I assumed it was owned by Dave Becker because Celia Saucedo mentioned the hardest hit casa as belonging to him.
Looking at #42 I can't imagine anything worse!! I never met the new owners but they like motorcycles(me too).
I sure hope they persevere and rebuild. Anything I can do to help Dave let me know in advance, Corky
