Kenny and I are wanting to come down and spend a couple of days just looking around Rosarito. We're hoping the bulk of the traffic is back to school
elsewhere;-) As we get plans together, several questions:
a) Is it an ok idea for us to have dogs on a leash with us when we're walking around the town, the market, etc.? Would the groundrules be that we
don't go into shops and stores but plan on leaving one of us on guard at the curb with bag? ;-) We've been in Mexico before, and you know I just can't
remember seeing dogs on leashes!
b) I've been through some of the many forum posts and done some searching but wonder if anybody'd got a favorite tamale vender someplace in Rosarito
or neighborhood? I've seen lots of good carnitsas places recommended, but great tamales seem to be in order. Any suggestions?
c) I thought we had a reservation on a little cabana on the beach, but the owner turned out to be a pretty unreliable character it seems. Seems that
we should be looking for an inexpensive or moderate little motel that's clean, pretty secure, and where the small dogs would be ok. We don't mind if
it's out out town a bit, but it's being quiet is a lot more important than being close to the action. Hopefully rates have gone down a bit this part
of the season? We'd prefer to be under $50 per day, and would appreciate any recommendations.
d) Ornate Lamps?: We live in a neat little stucco casita with tile roof and walls all around. The place wants better outdoor lights on patios, and
particularly on the garage wall out front. I have this fantasy that in TJ or Rosarito I ought to be able to find somebody who does good iron work who
could also blow glass into some sort of structure for an artistic effect. There could be scrolls for mounting to the wall, and a real honker lamp
might be a foot and a half tall and almost a foot across. Any idea where I'd find such a craftsman, or such outdoor lights? Should we stop in TJ at

Rosarito? Run for your life! Come South a bit to civilization to Ensenada! And check out www.ensenadabeachhouse.com -- cute place and I'm sure Tom would allow dogs. Probably $35 a night (even less) if you're nice to him...on the
beach unleashed is cool; around town, keep them on a leash if you love your dog...

Thanks. We'll check out Ensenada again on this trip, and have gotten good help from Tom, though we've enjoyed Rosarito and have a little more hope for
it than that. I know there are some iron works places both north and south of town, though I don't know if I could find anybody to help me with lamps.

I'm afraid I can't help with your tamales but a clean little place to stay for cheep is Roberts K38 Motel off the free road...but it is out of town.
It sits right on the beach and is a popular place with the surfers I think we paid around $40 USD a night for the 3 of us in 1 room and I know he had

I would stay at the pyramid resort it is close to both Ensenada and Rosarito
it might be a Little over your Budget but well worth it . I think for the Iron work you will do better in Ensenada there is more people doing it and
the price is lower. in fact I have an uncle that is one of the best there.

Thanks for the inputs, folks. Much appreciated. We did our run. Found one place with a half adequate light of the sort we were looking for in
Rosarito, but not any craftsmen or good designs. Used a day to look around TJ against the advice of some of the shops there, and ran into a place that
does very good work -- with great designs, ability to tailor stuff to my measurements, etc. So I'm a happy customer and didn't make it to Ensenada.
Robert's was an ok place to stay. Met the bill for being quiet. There was a surfer or two around. People ought to know that the beach is very rocky
though nice and clean. Robert's got 3 dogs, and there are a couple more junk dog types on chains near the stream bed next door.. so lots of

We met Sandra Chairez at Bernard's Galleries -- I'm sure that anybody at the Mercado de Artesians would know where to find her. That the Artesan's
market on 2nd and East of Revolucion a couple of blocks. Plenty of parking right across from the Smart & Final. We saw leather and glass workers
as well as lots of interesting boldly designed furniture being crafted there. Sandra walked us through many stores and showed us all kinds of things.
She had a good sense of design, seemed to be in contact with many craftsman who could tailor things, and was ready to powdercoat all that wrought iron
for many years of use. Feel free to message me if youd like phone or fax. Did I mention that upstairs she showed us a sample of the great kitchen
cabinets and granite countertops she does.. not only in Baja, but in Santa Barbara and throughout Southern California as well. Very impressive.
