Frankly this has to be one of the weirdest translations I've ever seen. I think the base of the conversation is Paraguayan Spanish, but I don't really know what to make of it, so I'm passing it on without further comment:

Husband: Let me see the Football World C...

Husband: Let me see the Football World Cup!
Marido: ¡Déjame ver el mundial de futbol!

Wife: Go away and frie asparagous! You are nothing more than a morning-singer
and a without-shame.
Esposa: ¡Vete a freir espárragos! ¡No eres más que un cantamañanas y un sinvergüenza!

Husband: Always flocking the female pig! I go to see the football at Diego\\\'s.
Marido: ¡Siempre jodiendo la marrana! Me voy a ver el fubol a casa de Diego.

Wife: The mother who gave birth to you! If you want to go out by legs,then you don\\\'t come back! If I have seen you I don\\\'t remember.
Esposa: ¡La madre que te parió! Si te quieres ir por piernas, no vuelvas. Si te he visto no me acuerdo.

Husband: To me, neither fu nor fa. It peals me it. It sweats me it. I do not
come back.
Marido: A mí, ni fu ni fa. Me la pela. Me la suda. No vuelvo.

Wife: Send eggs the uncle! For me, good of the Paraguay! I will go with Antonio,
which is not turkey mucus and to another thing,butterfly.
Esposa: ¡Manda huevos el tío! Por mí guay del Paraguay. Me voy con Antonio, que no es moco de pavo y a otra cosa, mariposa.

Husband: Don\\\'t flock me! Swicht off and let\\\'s go! Your pan has gone? With that
sissy beach always marking parcel? You really mean it?
Marido: ¡No me jodas! ¡Apaga y vámonos! ¿Se te ha ido la olla? ¿Con ese maricón
de playa siempre marcando paquete? ¿de verdad?

Wife: mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Husband: Don\\\'t go by the Ubeda\\\'s mountein! Don\\\'t roll yourself like a window
blind, I want the answer now or it fall on you a cigar and a brown that you chit!
Marido: ¡No te vayas por los cerros de ubeda! ¡No te enrolles como una persiana,
quiero la respuesta ahora o te cae un puro y un marrón que te cagas!

Wife: You are more silly than the ass\\\' hair, that see the chit coming and don\\\'t

Esposa: ¡Eres más tonto que los pelos del culo, que ven venir la mierda y no se

Wife: You allucinate little cucumbers! Until then, Lucas! And I take the TV with me.
Esposa: ¡Tu alucinas pepinillos! ¡Hasta luego, Lucas! Y me llevo la tele.

Husband: My happiness in a hole!
Marido: ¡Mi gozo en un pozo!

Maybe not. It may have just been the mention of the country. It's probably from Spain as that's the location of the website. As usual, I picked it up from tonterias.com.

Damn Oso! You made it a wierd translation. This is your everyday run-o-the mill spanish dude. Being that I speak the language, it makes perfect sense to me. You are translating it literally which of course is not going to translate well word for word into english. There's alot of "slang" in it, phrases and words expressed metaphorically.

Pargo,
In case it matters un culo de rata, I did not translate it. I merely copied and pasted it exactly as I found it on tonterias.com. Most likely someone in Spain or wherever ran it through babelfish or some other online translator.

The slang is definitely not Mexican. If you are familiar with that terminology, perhaps you'd like to give it a shot and enlighten us all?

Yeah, that one really got me. Moraleja is of course the "moral" of the story. Apparently the "machin" picked up "mora", the fm. of moro (moor) and "alejar". The image of Antonio strutting his package in a speedo was hilarious and I guess the turkey booger is the husband but the funniest crack has got to be the hairs too dumb to get out of the way. I gotta use that one.

Oso my apologies if I came across as a language cop. It is kinda funny but when it's put word for word into english it just doesn't sound as funny thats all I meant. Didn't mean for everyone to put up there dukes on the lingo stuff. How 'bout translating this " me vale madre de todos modos"...if you put that into straight english. it's lost its flavor! " "matters un culo de rata" sounds better in english. Peace fellas, no harm no foul intensioned. Listen to Grover, stay composed Phew!!

Same with Vieja and viejo - my ex-hubby said "oh how sweet - your uncle call her Vieja".... i looked at him like "You call me old woman and I am gonna kick your A&%!"....

Vieja does sound more endearing, though.

No echas tanta sal a los tacos. No offense taken and none intended in return. You were quite correct regarding the inadequacy of the translation. You just missed that it was part of the joke and mistook who was doing the translating.

This is why, when people ask which online translator is best, my response is that they all suck. So far, nobody has invented one that can fathom context.

My invitation to try your hand at translating the "English Couple" argument was not meant as some prissy kind of "well if you can do better" challenge. I'm quite serious. If you are familiar with these expressions, help us out. Sharing is what this forum is all about. I know a fair amount of Mexican street slang but I've never been to Spain or done much hanging out with gachupines. Although I did serve for a short time under a Galician captain on a freighter out of Belize. Bernardo's every third word was ¡coño!. When thing´s went wrong, he would shout ¡Me cago en la leche! and when it was really serious (we went aground), it was ¡Me cago en la hostia, sapo maricón!

Our little bear is our resident translator of all things appearing to be Spanish. I sometime think he even dreams in Spanish. Some of it he aquired in college, Santa Barbara, more he found in cantinas, and I would suppose a bit he learned on the pillows.

If you can really find him wrong every now and then us non speakers would be most happy--would make us feel a bit less ferier!

Bernie, the last venue you mentioned is always the best place to learn another language. :yes:

The classroom is the worst. Sta. Barbara is where I finally finished my B.A. through Antioch, 16 years after I started it at U. of the Americas in the D.F. I am most definitely NOT infallible and am often wrong, specially when the Spanish comes from elsewhere than central Mexico.

I do sometimes dream and think in Spanish. I use both every day at work and since most of my staff is bilingual too, we'll go back and forth and use whichever terminology comes to mind or seems simplest or most convenient at the time. My wife and I have used mita/mita-Spanglish for so many years that neither one of us is usually all that conscious of which language we are using unless it's with a guest who doesn't speak one or the other.

Now, back to the "English Couple" from tonterias.com- I'm not trying to show anybody up here. I am not familiar with half of these expressions and I really want to know. I'll work on this and explain the ones I can figure out and let's see if anybody with more European experience can help with the rest.

Cantamañanas... I'm guessing this is a rooster, the connotation being windbag, blowhard, all talk no action.

Ir por las piernas... walk out?

Se te he visto, no me acuerdo... Forget you!

Ni fu ni fa... used in Mexico; so-so, doesn't matter one way or the other.

Me la pela..."you peel it for me." A common insult in Mexico, referring to the foreskin.

Me la suda... "you sweat it for me" about the same thing.

Manda huevos el tio... Not too sure, but I think most of us understand the double meaning of "eggs". I'm guessing she is saying his uncle should send him some balls as he lacks them.

Por mi guay del Paraguay... I have no clue what this one means.

Que no es moco de pavo... In this instance, moco is not mucus (snot/booger) but rather the turkey's wattle. I'm guessing the implication regards "limpness".

Mariposa... Maricon, homosexual...

No me jodas... universal, "Don't f*ck with me!"

Apaga y vamonos... Turn off the light and let's go... maybe "That's it!"

Se te ha ido la olla?... Have you lost your mind?

Maricon de playa siempre marcando paquete... Beach fag, always showing off his package (in a speedo?)

No te vayas por los ceros de Ubeda... Lencho found that this is a range in Spain. I'm guessing it means something like going too far or exaggerating. It sounds a bit like my favorite Mexican expression for a far remote place; "Hasta las nalgas del diablo"- all the way to the devil's butt-cheeks, more or less like our "Bum***, Egypt".

No te enrollas como una persiana... Don't roll yourself up like a window blind. I'm guessing this is like "Don't get your panties in a knot."

Te cae un puro y un marrón que te cagas... I'm mystified. Puro is cigar and I'll guess a marrón is a turd but I have no clue what is meant by this.

Dumber than the hairs... This one is pretty self-explanatory. Let's leave it at that.

Se acabo lo que se daba... Whatever we had is over?

Stay composed and without a girlfriend... no clue.

Mas cuento que Calleja... Again, Lencho identified Calleja as a children's author, so I'll guess "You got more fairy tales than the Brothers Grimm".

You hallucinate little cucumbers... no clue.

Lucas... no clue.

Mi gozo en un pozo... My pleasure in a well- something like "down the tubes- in the toilet"??

Moraleja... moral of the story.

En todas partes cuecen habas... common expression in Mexico= Things are tough all over.

Con las mujeres nunca das pie con bola... With women, you can't win. (can't understand them) - soccer term= can't get a foot on the ball.
