"THE SPORTSMAN's GUIDE" has a 2-pac of new Midland handi-talkies available today for about $25-----10 mile range. I have had nothing but good
experiences with MIDLAND radios.

These are really good for caravans and to keep the family together while shopping or exploring. I have seen some FRS/GMRS radios with a 15 mile range,
although iwould really depend on terrain. Barry, are these using a rechargable battery or AA/AAA batteries???
MIDLAND HANDI-TALKIES--------

The radios come with a charger and rechargable batteries, but they can also be run with 4 AA batteries (each), which is what I use-------AA batteries
are very cheap from COSTCO--Kirkland brand.
When you go into "the sportsman's guide" website, plug in the stock number: E639K-113213 to bring it instantly up.
These radios are very cheap, for what you are getting, and are compatible with most other FRS/GMRS handi-talkies out there.
If you belong to the "buyers club" (which I do) the two radios only cost $19.95, plus s&h. Non-members cost is $24.95 + s&h.
No, I do not have any financial connection with "the sportsman's guide"
By the way------

Midland does make handi-talkies that have a claimed 18 mile range, and I have some. But they are in the $80 range for 2.
These radios now advertised for $25 will do the job, and are soooooooooo cheap, which is why I posted this.

barry, is there a brand out there that makes a totally water proof set. i like to keep a set on the boat but they end up shorting out after months of
salt water weather. thanks

Could you use one of those waterproof talk through bags that Marine West sells for their FM and cell phones????
Or maybe get a speaker/mike attachment and put the radio in a waterproof container with only the speaker/mike exposed???

Just checked

and the item # does bring up these radios, however it states that battery charger and batteries are not included...
Just FYI.... (unless I'm missing something....? )

djh-----ooooooops, I missed that----

---------sorry about that. They ususally DO come with the chargers and NM Hydride or NiCad batteries----I simply missed that these particular radios
don't.
I know of no radio in this price range that is "water proof", but then I am not that "up" on these things.
I have several of the water-proof bags and they DO work, but they are a little awkward.
