Tecate Train....

Saw a show on public tv called "TECATE TRAIN" by Huel Howser ( he gets on my nerves after a while..:lol:)....runs from Campo to Tecate once a month for a day trip...with tour of the Tecate Beer facility if you want.....Costs $40......looked like a good trip.....anybody done this trip or seen the show?....trips sold out until next year.... but might make a fun NOMAD get together at some time......

Agreed... we should do it...

The only place in the world where you cross an international border UNDERGROUND is in a tunnel on that railroad line (The San Diego & Arizona Eastern).

----back in mid-' 70's I hiked that rail line from around Jucumba down to the desert thru Carrizo Gorge-------many tunnels and spectacular bridges-------and a great hike (as most down-hill hikes are :lol:). Since that time TS Kathleen (1976), and another TS in ' 77 did a number on the line, washing it out in places, and the main tressel took a beating in a fire after that, I believe. But, I still think this would make a great day-hike if you could leave a car at the base of the hill.

The idea of a NOMADS trip on the train is super, tho it does not go down Carrizo gorge, which is sad.

Last I heard the Carrizo Gorge train tracks were restored, and no pedestrians allowed near tracks.

I love the tracks and Tecate. I've always wanted to take the train. Spent last weekend hiking around the desert and made my way up the tracks a bit from Indian Hill and Dos Cabezas. (probably not supposed to hike on or near the tracks) There is evidence of recent work to get the tracks operational again.

A friend of mine had a little problem while mountainbiking down the gorge a few years back - pretty amazing video on this site -

I suspect there are a number of border-crossing tunnels... I hope they haven't progressed to trains, yet!

Even when the tracks were not restored three friends and myself recieved $103 tickets for hiking on the tracks and climbing up and over a closed off tunnel. I believe it was the one pictured above.... And yes, there were signs that said no, but hey, we drove all the way down there, and just had to do it. I'm going to say it was worth $$ for the hike as we did cross Carrizo gorge trestle and back again. Beautiful country! This was before the burn, so it would have been 15 years ago.

Yea it kinda reminds me of the time a guy I know took me out for a hot lap on his kawasaki mule when he was s-it faced and ran over anything growing. He wound up slamming it into a sand berm at 20 mph and came to a dead stop instantly(slamming my right knee into the all metal dash board. It hurt like all get out for over a month but you know what I FORGAVE HIM FOR THAT and didn't tell american cops about it (like about my Corona street sign) as if they could have done something about it anyway.

Sometimes I think if I hear "WOW" one more time, I will scream. :yes: But I think he has a great job! Met him once, and he really is a nice person.

We really want to do that Tecate Train sometime.

you mean to tell me we can all get on a train in california, ride over into mexico, take a tour and some sample at the tecate brewery, get BACK on the same train and retrun to california all in ONE day???? that's amazing!!!( i think that's how huell might say it!) i agree, that would be a fun nomad get together:spingrin:
