A neighbors boat was stolen last night from his bouy infront of his house.
Carl Grave's 21' Triumph center consol T top with a 150 Yamaha Hull ID CF2152RE is missing as of daylight Monday 10/09/06. Any boaters, pilots or any

Boy, I hate this, it is like Dejavu, we lost a boat at Muertos some years ago and went through this. The closest thing to getting some results was to
offer a cash reward to the pangueros for the return of the boat, no questions asked.
Sorry no one was there with a plane, it should be very easy to spot from the air. We did have friends who had a boat come untied at Ligui one year
and they found it, with everything aboard about 15 miles to sea.
I will put the info out at San Lucas Cove.
Hope we have a happy ending to this one.

Thanks Pescador. The RED faced owner CARL is a happy but imbarASSED man. The boat has been recovered unmolested drifting outside the Santa Inez

I know this was a tie-off incident, but is there any kind of security device for buoy locking. I have not thought about losing a boat at anchor so the
question maybe silly.

Have seen pepole using a chain and paddlock, amazingly the saltwater wouldn't affect the paddlock!
I will bet that this has happened to many of us------

------I know it happened to me, and it was a valuable lesson. Took us over a day to find our boat, bobbing along far at sea. Scares the H---- out of
you at the time, but in retrospect is pretty funny. I tie off to 2 bouys now, and have a long line leading to a shore anchor also-----3 different tie
points.

Carl spliced a poly rope and it just unraveled. I hate the floating junk! I pull my boat out each time. But then I'm not out that much either so I
don't mind. Also can launch in front of the house. There are brass locks that some use with covered stainles cable or a chain. I think I would devise
an car alarm on a preasure pad also. This situation is right up there with forgeting to put the plug in. It happens. Carl is not sober at the moment
nor was he an hour ago when I tried to rag on him a bit. Of course there was a line of folks helping him. He is very interested in knowing about
insurance now too. Any suggestions? Where and how much? It was really expensive 8 years ago when I tried through Lewis & Lewis. Thanks Everyone!

If you're gonna use a padlock go with Arbus West Marine...have had them hold up for me through 4 boats, twenty years....all salt

now here is a thread with real potential and very few are running with it.
I have done many splices on Polly rope you must make your splice about one third longer than with other types of rope. Only use that stuff if for some
reason you must have a floating rope. I like to use all chain.

two years ago we bought an expensive square anchor that the sales people at the boat shop sait would never move....
the chail unhooked and the boat was floating away....
long ride in the zodiac to capture the runaway
now that super anchor is only uses for the seadoos...

...maybe you should re-think the use of the poly. It will deteriorate rapidly in UV...a sure way to have a problem...

A FRIEND of mine... (yeah right) pulled into anchorage near Stuart Island (San Juans, WA state) late one evening and caught a mooring bouy....
Plesantly surprised at the good luck and time saved by not having to anchor, he poured a nice glass of Shiraz, listened to some favorite mellow music,
and after watching the last light of the August evening and the first few stars appear, fell off to sleep....
Perfect end to a great day of sailing.... right?
It was with similar embarrassment that "my friend" was awoken in the wee hours of the next morning, by a few loud blasts from a passing commercial
errrrr Canadian vessel....
It coulda been worse ! The upside is.... it cut several hours off of the sail from Stuart down the straight towards Victoria..
Please don't ask how I know such details re: this story....

I have a friend who lost a boat a few years ago at PapaFernandez', It departed in the wee hours in a strong S/W wind, after days of searching it was
recovered at a fish camp south of Punta Final, picked clean, but boat and motor were fine, the pangueros said they found it upside down.
The anchor used was a little mushroom shape and way to small for the boat, tied directly to the rope without any chain.

Glad they found Carl's boat. The only people who actually insure a boat down here is Progressive. Discover Baja as well as Lewis and Lewis will
provide you with a liability policy but it is only good as long as it is hooked to the tow vehicle and is moving. I have researched this one out very
carefully following my experience at Muertos. I asked the adjustors from the various mexican companies about if I stopped for lunch and someone stole
the boat and trailer while I was eating, would I be covered and they both admitted that I would not be covered. So yes you have theft and liability
but it only pays in a very narrow circumstance. Progressive, on the other hand knows that I bring my boat to Mexico and as long as I have a liability
policy from Seguros through Lewis and Lewis to cover me on the highway, then I am covered for theft.
