NEW PIER AND BREAKWATER IN ASUNCION

Sureveyors were here all last week checking out the rock cliffs where the new pier will be. I understand from the local gossip that the plan for a new pier in Abreojos has been sacked and the government decided to put it in Asuncion instead. News to me! So it looks like the breakwater will go in at the point by our place and the jetty will be where the pangas are anchored in front of the co-op, the rocky point you see in this pic will be a breakwater. I took this at dawn last week. Hmmm

That will be interesting indeed...especially in the mean south swells from hurricaines. But it will be nice for the sailboats and tuna boats that come in to have somewhere to tie up instead of nearly flipping their dinghies when they try beach landings in town. Our pal Manuel who is building a restaurant right at the jetty sight is pretty excited about the decision! He started a little charter boat business and is close to completing his restaurant which has a lovely location out at the point right on the bay. It's cool to see the locals diversifying and trying to break new ground here.Viva Asuncion!

As always with development there are both good and bad, I guess I'd be surprised to see a harbor of sorts that was built well and maintained properly, sand movement and buildup can become overwhelming in a short amount of time.
I will say that stretch of the coast is one of my favorites and will agree with you on Viva Asuncion.
