Now that someone said Baja Cactus will accept dogs, we may stay there when we are not camping in our camper. We are very careful about dogs in Baja
and on the mainland of Mexico with the beds---we know the beds are a no, no for dogs.
Also, just as a hint for other dog owners, we always travel with large flannel sheets which we use to cover any beds in the room---keeps the stray
flying dog hair off the bed. We don't want to ruin it for other people.
When we drove down to Batopilas in Copper Canyon, we were really tired and Juanita, of Juanita's Hotel said no to the dogs at first----other people
had allowed their dogs on the beds. She changed her mind and we were VERY careful.

Thanks--- We love having our dogs with us. It is an uphill battle for finding dog friendly places, especially in Mexico.
Oh, we also carry a dog hair removal brush---the kind that picks up hair one way, and dumps it the other way.

we stayed in a hotel a while back and the first room they gave us smelled like dogs and dog poop so bad and had dog hare every where we bailed and

I cannot and will not stay in any hotel that allows pets - dogs and cats. I have allergies no matter how careful the previous occupant may have been
with their pet. I will NOT be staying at Baja Cactus hotel when I drive down next month.

my wife is also allergic to most animal hare and dander. it is a real problem for us. they should have only certain rooms that they put the animal

Baja Cactus has tile floors that are mopped... How do you get a guarantee that a room never has a dog in it before you arrive?
There is probably no motel in the world you would be safe in. In Switzerland people can take their (large) dogs into department stores, shops, etc.
There is no cleaner country in the world. Maybe 5 star hotels are safe as dogs would have to get past the front desk... but a motel?
I know someone who stayed at Mama Espinoza's motel and found MOLD in the bathroom... also they have 2 tiny dogs and doubt if they even bother to
inform management when they go into the rooms with them (afterall they are like their own children to dog owners).

Many hotels/motels have specific rooms for pets. Motel 6 promotes itself as pet friendly; they think that helps, not hurts, their business and it
certainly has resulted in many visits by us.
Baja Cactus: We were there again Monday night. It's as good as DK says. Best deal not only in Baja but best I've found in western North America. They
seemed to want to steer us towards a certain room, maybe they will limit pets to certain rooms? Maybe that's a decent compromise between those with

I should prudently refrain from this thread, but must respond to the allegation that motel/hotel owners have found that allowing pets in the rooms is
bad for business. As a recent retiree, it is quite obvious that many retired folks travel with their pets. These same people seek out hotels/motels
that allow pets. A quick check in our area (Santa Barbara, a true high-end tourist mecca) shows there are over a dozen hotels/motels allowing pets.
The Santa Barbara Bacara at $425-$5000 a night for 2, Santa Barbara Biltmore at $500-620 for 2, Doubletree Inn at $417, down to the Marina Beach Hotel
at $98-275 for two, just to name a few. I suspect that the $ incentive to allow patrons with their pets outweighs any potential negative
consequences. Triple A (AAA) and other travel organizations publish guidebooks directing pet owners to those establishments allowing pets. Must be a
demand and market for these pet-friendly places. Then again, many folks just take their pets into a room whether allowed or not. I suspect hoteleers
know that and might as well be open about it. I have spent many a poor night in hotels that allow children, slept in some very dirty hotels in
Central America, but sometimes just must go with the flow. Baja Cactus motel is exceptionally clean, with a wonderful host, and fascinating
surroundings for those who take the time to see them. Imagine, 2 mission ruins in the same town! It's a bummer to have allergies and need to avoid
foods, animals, and the out-of-doors. Fortunately, most folks are not allergic or control their allergies with medications so they can fully
participate. You might stop by the Baja Cactus motel and see the newer rooms and determine if they won't meet your needs. I think you will be
surprised.
