BajaNomad

Regardless of all the BS on bajanomad...

Mike Humfreville - 12-17-2003 at 12:30 AM

Can't we just agree that the "General Baja Discussion Center" is the place where we can all go to discover that specific information of Baja that has become tratidional across several Baja Boards? You all can have the other forums to address everything else you want and the mainstream Baja California folks can have the leftovers at the general discussion center. Go for it.

Too bad

While I don't want in any way to influenence the communication that occurs here I will turn off the political BS that is happening here and monitor only the main page. oh, my.

RIGHT ON!

BS?

Anonymous - 12-17-2003 at 08:05 PM

I find the editing here civil.

Nomad boards are very well done, not like past boards.

The perfect world according to 'mike', only exists between your ears.

Like many 'baja people', they are more comfortable 'away' from others.

Not good or bad, just 'away from other people'. Thats probably why some think, other points of view are "BS".

(in my sub-continent, english educated, Indian voice...) "Sir, you seem to need special help! May I suggest a licensed mental health professional?" .

Take a Look, Amigo...

Mike Humfreville - 12-17-2003 at 08:27 PM

at all the venom that occurs when you open the "Today's Posts" site.

I agree with you on one point, maybe more. The board management, Doug, et al, does a very good job. It offers minimal restrictions. In fact the vast majority of deletions are, assumedly, executed by the original posters themselves.

But when I open "Today's Posts" I loose the focus of Baja. American political agenda is not what makes a Baja Board. The BS I note is not directed at board management. It is not directed at specific individuals. It's directed at the overwhelming amount of non-Baja posts that surface here.

I don't understand your comment on Baja folks like to be away from others. How would you know that if you weren't one yourself. And being away from others could just be exactly what many of us look for when we go to Baja California: to be away from so much hubbub that we can pay more attantion to those we truly care about. That's why I go.

I'm glad you expressed yourself openly. I wish whatever I wrote hadn't peeed you off so severely. I'm glad you are educated (I'm absolutely not), and you communicate very well in English. Too bad you have a need to attempt to put others down. On the point of another thread, do you care to identify yourself so we can learn your style as you continue to post here?

Oh, yeah. On your point of my needing serious mental attention you're absolutely correct. Those reading my posts over the years already know that. Hey, Deb, FedEx me a case of boxed wine will you???

Just on opinion ......

Debra - 12-17-2003 at 08:36 PM

I think this is where the complaints come from about "annon" posts.......

I could say exactly what this last post said to Mike H., but, because I sign my REAL name he would know from where, and who it is coming from and understand the content in which it was sent. (teasing, not teasing or just plain mean)

Mike is right in that, many of us get to 'know' each other because of our styles of posting.....and many of us know each other because we have spent time together in person......some don't, as happened with a responce I made (mea culpa) to a post (I thought) was giving Capt. Mike a hard time.... IMHO when the 'board wars' get going, like they have in this last week, we (I do) get more protective and sensitive.....I couldn't care less about the politcal talk, or whatever...it's when the name calling and non-tolerance starts that I have a hard time. I call for a 'pow-wow' around a Magic Rock camp fire.....guarenteed to melow even the most "Hot Head" right Mike H.?

See what happened?

Debra - 12-17-2003 at 08:41 PM

As I was replying Mike H. got in before me...this is where alot of confusion happens.

Mike H.......

Debra - 12-17-2003 at 08:50 PM

While I agree you are in serious need of 'mental help' and I would send you some.......but, the Fed-Ex costs more than the 'fine boxed wine'.....so, my Dear...you will have to wait for my next trip down!

Damn! No Wine Then!

Mike Humfreville - 12-17-2003 at 09:56 PM

and Mary Ann is sick and now I'll have to forage for myself. But I pledged to support Packoderm's conviction. I thought this thread was semi-doing that but it's just as off-Baja as those on the political forum. If I can attempt to merge the two themes, I would propose a social discussion of what Baja is to us individually and socially.

As many have said before me, Baja is a place we go avidly. Why do we go there? For a variety of reasons. It offers space between individuals but I don't often encounter an individual that doesn't want to share space and time. Perhaps this is because we humans are social and enjoy being with other humans but need to restrict the flow of those we know to a moderated few?

Baja offers a remoteness where we can lose ourselves and sit on a remote quiet beach and wind down from our distant cities and intense relationships with work, the everyday world and begin to understand the tranquil moments of interplanetary space and the magnificance of our universe(s?) and complexities of living.

The questions about passports are important to answer. The road questions are important to answer. The road blocks and the military questions are important to answer.

But the most important part of our collective experience in Baja California and Baja California Sur are the small and intimate experiences we have shared along the peninsula. That is the heart of what I read. I (WE?) enjoy the posts of all types on nomads. No prob! but if you open the "Today's" board its a lot of non Baja stuff. That in itself is no big deal and personally I want to see everyone get what they want. I just find that my way to win is by staying to the "General Discussion Center." I tried it today. It was much more tranquil. When I got bored I opened "Today" but I wasn't stuck there, muddled with the agressive posts of a few. There is no criticism, just opinion here.

Blah, Blah.....blah!

Debra - 12-17-2003 at 10:10 PM

There you go again!!!!! Long winded and full of c^ap! You get your behind in there and tend to my 'sester'!.......NOW!!!!!!

David K - 12-18-2003 at 12:56 AM

Mike, sorry to hear Mary Ann is ill. I hope it isn't the terrible cold/flu... I had it for 3 weeks and the doc got me on these giant 'horse' pills (augmentom? 1000 mg). 10 days later, I am all well.

How was your Christmas Party? Realy sorry I wasn't there, this year. You really treat your guests like royalty rather they be Jet Propulsion Labratory space scientist or us Baja dirt road lovers!

:?:But Mike, if you stick to the "General Discussion Center" you'll not see my questions on roads, roadblocks and the military. And if I post questions on the General Discussion Center then I'm disregarding Doug's suggestion we put our questions there.

I've gotten better at avoiding the political non-baja stuff when it's in it's own section. It's these digressions that sneak up and draw me in.

Sorry Nat....

Debra - 12-18-2003 at 11:53 AM

You're right......I too have been going to "todays posts" and don't always know which board I'm on when I open my big mouth.....sometimes....(as now) I jump in when I should leave it to email (to give Mike H. garbage) but,. frankly...it's much easier to just respond here....and, I love the good-natured bantering I read here (I love a sence of humor) ....El Camote's responce and the talk that came from that (the whole diaper thing) I enjoyed very much, I was LOL!.. (what is more fun than a first time Dad?!) Maybe (I forget who said it, is right) if some want 'pure Baja' and nothing else Baja.com would fit the bill, but, as was said.....you will have to wait a couple of weeks for a response :)

Anonymous - 12-18-2003 at 12:20 PM

When are you guys going to get it. This ain't Amigo's. The far left was invited here to boost traffic BEFORE Amigo's demise. This was a direct response to a political problem on Amigos. Now that you have had to come here also, don't be cryin about the politics. It is what it is.

As far as the deletions by the moderator go, I agree most are from the individual posters. There is however a certain amount that are deleted just because they are critical of the way certain people who are in charge here do things. I think you all know that though judging by the way you are always sucking up even though you are getting pooped on.

marla - 12-18-2003 at 12:35 PM

Gee Mike. Sorry Mary Ann is ill. Hope she is all better by next week!
I don't have time to read the political b.s. so I just ignore it, personally. I am too busy to get embroiled in pointless cyberspace debates with total strangers.

Packoderm - 12-18-2003 at 12:41 PM

Debra, I don?t think you?d have to wait very long for a response at Baja.com; Fulano is sitting there ready to respond to every post in a New York second. It?s the original posts that are few and far between. Fulano does give some good advice the Baja neophyte, and he is funny. I wonder if he lurks here at Nomad?s, or if he posts by a different name here.

Debra - 12-18-2003 at 12:45 PM

We are "going to get it" just as soon as we know who we are talking too "Anon" don't you agree, that if you know, (as Mike H. said) it would go a long way to understanding the printed word?

And.....yes, this is Amigo's ( just in case you forgot English....it means Friends)....and it wasn't the "far left" that encourged us to come here...it was a da^m Republican! :)

PAK......

Debra - 12-18-2003 at 12:59 PM

This (your comments) is what I find so great and funny here........you are right...Fulano is? well, I lost words......."him" :)....I don't think he 'lurks' here.....Well, maybe he is "annon".....even on his own board he is kind of mean

Marla, Depends on who you consider strange......

Stephanie Jackter - 12-18-2003 at 03:43 PM

Was Chopy (Cornel), a total stranger? You could say that. I only knew him under a pseudonym on the web until he died, but I would have given him any support I could because I knew by his words that he was a good guy. And when he died, I definitely felt like I'd lost a friend. One of the most politically outspoken people on any of the boards, too, and a friend of yours, (if you're the same Marla I spoke to after his death).

We do come on these boards as total strangers, but through political conversation or sharing stories about experiences in Baja or giving advice on how to navigate a perfect vacation or whatever else collectively "floats our boats" to talk about, most of us wind up with it least a couple of friends out of the experience, whether they're like minded thinkers or just people who are smart and interesting to share a cyber moment with.

By the way, any news on the little boy from Loreto with all the medical problems? - Stephanie

Yes, Debra, I also enjoy the banter. It's a wonderful part of this board.

The topics I'm getting better at avoiding are generally of political origin and quickly digress into variations on the "us" vs "them" theme. By not spending time on such topics, my blood pressure has remained low without medication and I've had time to smell the flowers.

:).......I won't show you the Magic Rock pile, but........I will share a fire with you.

And you too Steph. might mellow you out a bit. Not meaning to be mean....just inviting you.

Not from my standpoint, no.

There are plenty of critical comments to be found around here.

Being critical is one thing -- being disrespectful however is another matter entirely.

Love to share the fire sometime... could we at least have some magic rocks at the fire?:)

Thanks for the invitation, Debra, but you know I'd neeeeed to talk politics around the fire....

and Natalie Ann would be begging her magic rocks to shut me up! - Stephanie
