Almost, sometimes and maybe some places, but most tortas are usually made with teleras which are about the same size and type of bread as bolillos but
differ slightly in shape; a little flatter and wider with a a little softer texture, distinguished by two pre-baking cuts down the top giving the
impression of being divided in three parts rather than the one cut distinctive of the bolillo.Paula - 10-26-2006 at 05:25 PM
I know what a torta is, but what is El Trailero?Al G - 10-26-2006 at 05:30 PM
Looks and sounds wonderful. Will try one soon. There aqre so many choices of filling makes me wonder where to start.
Thanks ElgatolocoPaulina - 10-26-2006 at 05:39 PM
El Trailero is in El Sauzal, just as you enter town on the East side of the highway. It is on a corner. There is a killer fruiteria right next door.
We like their tortas too, but Recreo in Maneadero is still our favorite!

Siiii, ya lo entiendo. Gracias, Paulina.
BTW, Paulina is my "real" name, but it is from the Dutch, not Spanish. I shortened it in my rebeliops high school days because no one could remember
or pronounce it where I'm from. Lo siento mucho. It is a very pretty name.
Interesting how there are different definitions or descriptions

If you haven't been, you must stop at both the bakery in Santa Rosalia and the CCC bakery in La Paz. Both will have you stuffed and sweetened with all
the wonderful choices.

OK......where is Recero? Is that the place about two signals past the Y and on the west side of the road. I'll be down there this weekend and always
looking for new places.
Our place is in La Jolla and we frequent Danny's in Cantu.elgatoloco - 10-26-2006 at 11:09 PM
I recall that Recreo serves a tasty huarache? no?
You can't miss it.AmoPescar - 10-27-2006 at 12:06 AM
QUESTION FOR PAULINA - REGARDING TORTAS IN BOLA...
When we were in BOLA on the first BAJA EXPRESS cycle ride in 2002 we ate at the little Taqueria pictured here. They had GREAT Tortas! I had a Carne
Asada one the first day and then everyone else wanted one the next day. Everyone thought they were great!!
Is the Taqueria still located there and is their food still good??

Bigboy, You're right, Recreo is just after the road narrows to two lanes from four. It is on the west side of the road, you probably know Pablanos, it
is before Pablanos and across the street. Their tacos are less than $1., huge and have Danny's beat. Very much worth the drive into town. There are
plenty of Campo La Jolla residents that are regulars there!
El Gato, I tried that giant once and it was mighty tasty!
Amo,
That stand is "China's". It's still there. I've never had a torta from her. We sometimes do Birria on Sundays.

Paulina,
Yes, I've been there. Irka Davis turned us on to Recreo's a few months ago. I think I'll drive out there this weekend and sample a few goodies!Bob H - 10-28-2006 at 08:23 AM

Can you provide more detailed directions to Recreo? We'd love to try the place.
Gracias,

Bob H......just follow Paulina's directions and you will find it no problem!Slowmad - 2-1-2007 at 05:50 PM
Taqueria El Trailero is exquisite.
Northbound in El Sauzal, get on the frontage road when it begins and it's about three blocks north.
The tortas are in another class, filled with "the works," including frijoles de olla and fresh Camalu tomatoes.
For 20 pesos, you're pretty much ruined for the day.
Be sure to cook your own scallions...just grab one from the pile and toss it on the brazier.
This place is clean as a whistle, and has parking and sparkling bathrooms in the back.
About as good as tacos get.

ok.......so if you get one made on a gordita type tortilla, what's that called??
a "gordita"??
i now love the gordita flour tortillas i can get in some groc stores here.
wonder, if you deep fried one, would it turn into a sopapilla??
why did i get up so frickin early this morning??......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzSlowmad - 2-3-2007 at 12:26 PM
Gordita sorta thing might be a huarache.
Also, they'll build your taco on a quesadilla...pretty decadent. bajabass - 2-5-2007 at 03:37 PM
Trilero is great!!! A regular stop one the way up or down. Also try California Hot Dogs in San Quintin for the best hot dogs!!! Best at 2 or 3 in the
morning!!!Slowmad - 2-21-2007 at 03:13 PM
Oh man...just hit it again yesterday on the way home.
Some of the things that really set El Trailero apart include:
-clean bathrooms and parking in the back
-a tacos al pastor station
-an adobada station
-a carne asada station
-a fish taco station
-a cocteles de marisco station
You just move from spot to spot at the counter and order that spot's specialty.
My bro was touting something called a mulito.
This is a very hard place to pass by.Hook - 2-21-2007 at 04:09 PM
I have enjoyed all of those there except the al pastor. And I love al pastor. But it was very fatty the two times I tried it.Bob H - 2-21-2007 at 04:14 PM
Please tell me the difference between tacos al pastor and tacos adobada. I'm confused now.
Thanks,
Bob H
