I am getting ready to buy an emergency generator for my Casa and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this generator. Good, bad or
indifferent.

well worth every peso....BajaWarrior - 10-26-2006 at 08:25 PM
For $9000 you could buy a lot of Honda 5000 generators, they are only $2500, or if your talking emergency backup only, a new generation super quiet
super lite Honda 3000 would be the way to go. My Honda 5000 is 13 years old and is running just fine. Electric start, overhead valve, and it has a lot
of hours on it.
Also, they have the new Honda 2000, which two can be hooked together if needed to double your wattage, if only one is needed for lights, run one.
You can check these out on line through Honda, they also have them at Northern.com etc...BajaWarrior - 10-26-2006 at 08:36 PM
Correction:
Northerntools.com is no longer carrying the Honda product.bajaguy - 10-26-2006 at 08:42 PM
Northern Tool and Equipment (northerntool.com) carries the Northstar generator, 13hp, 8,000 watt, powered by Honda for $1,499.00. Looks like all of
Northern Tool "Northstar" branded generators are powered by Honda engines.bajalou - 10-26-2006 at 08:55 PM
For anywhere near continuous duty running A/C etc a diesel will outlast the gasoline ones 10 to 1. Many diesel models are built to run continuously
for weeks at a time. For short time emergency use gasoline power is OK.Bob and Susan - 10-27-2006 at 06:21 AM
the quietest generator is the BEST generator....but
I have 3 chineese diesels and only 2 still run...
I had one of my guys call china and his people said they are not repairable...just dispose of the junk...
my BEST generator is the old 3750 coleman but...
i'll be buying the quietest honda soon4baja - 11-5-2006 at 05:54 PM

Beware Guardian propane generators. We had a new 10KW work for just a few hours. Luckily we got a refund.jorgie - 11-6-2006 at 06:31 AM
What is the price on a eu 3000 Honda, anybody know ?4baja - 11-6-2006 at 07:14 AM
i paid around 1,550 but i believe most are around 1,800. i have had zero problems with mine and last aug. ran it 24/7 for 10 days in 100 degree temps
at full load with nada problems. the great thing about them is that if you need more power then they will put out just buy another and use the jumper
cable. aha baja - 11-6-2006 at 07:16 AM
The Honda EU 3000 IS , is about $1800.00 U.S. They have the ability to be "ganged" in a pair and "Phased" aligned to give a matching sine wave of
double the amplitude in power. I believe 6Kw at $4 grand (Mas o Minus) is better deal and 6Kw I would think would be adequate for most
applicationsRuss - 11-6-2006 at 12:00 PM
Get the Honda EU3000 IS. It is quieter than their 2000 or 1000 and as stated above you can put them inline for more power needs. They come with a
12volt output so you can charge your boat or car batteries too. And your neighbors will appreciate your efforts to keep the noise down. Please
conceder your neighbors. A short timer just came in with his Honda construction type. And it really ruins the piece and quiet here. There will be a
point where I'll have to confront him if he runs it a lot. I sure didn't move here for the noise or confrontations.
all that worrying for nothing. He moved his fun trailer in front of the
generator and their three quad haven't been a problem. Happy ending!

thats the whole reason why we picked that one russ, they are quiet and run for ever. i wouldnt recommend it for power while building a house because
they seem to have a hard time running air compressers. they fire up AC units no problem and like you said they have a
12 volt charging system so you can charge those batteries around tha casita.aha baja - 11-8-2006 at 10:34 AM
he's right on they are the best!Lee - 11-9-2006 at 08:33 AM

On the other hand, I've had no complaints with my Guardian Generac 12k. It's 3 years old. Came equipped to run propane or gas: I converted to
propane. 20 circuits, transfer switch, color coded wires, etc. Air cooled. Easy to install, quiet (can't hear it running 50' from my house), and
maintenance free. I start it twice a week (manual calls for once) to exercise it. Really a no brainer. Just change the oil regularly.
Got it from Norwall in AZ.
For a small setup, and backup power, go with Honda.
A concern I had with gas was how long would it run before I needed to fill it up? I think propane is better.
my 2 cents

here in alaska the honda eu3000 is the overall favorite. expensive yes.....but it only hurts once. i have 3 gensets one honda, a mutsbichi , and a
genrac( purchased at costco 20 years and used near salt water and just wont die.) a lot of gensets have a honda engine....but a generator of
uncertain pedigree.
i have friends who have a great running honda motor hooked to a generator which "pooped the bed" long ago.Summanus - 11-9-2006 at 10:51 AM
We are Honda fans now.
After the Guardian 10KW, we bought the Honda 5500 watt, water-cooled, key-start, many settings and functions, so quiet movie industries use it for
their remote sets, puts out power plus, and sips fuel. Bought for about $2600 new at dealer with solid warranty. For our use, Honda makes the best
genset we've had in the last 40 years. We use gensets for home off-grid use, hunting camps, and RV use. Ones we have used in the past are Onan
diesel, Generac propane, Briggs/Stratton gas, Coleman. The Onan worked great for a long, tough life, but was very heavy and not very quiet. Generac
was okay, but had frequent switching problems, I think Briggs should have stayed with grain auger engines, Onan Emerald propane RV model is good,
also.
A lot of RVers we know prefer the 2000 or 3000 Hondas...easily connecting two inline for special needs.
For that emergency use in a casa....sounds like a 3000 would fill the bill and not break the bank.
Consider using the generator............

..........to power a "smart" charger rather than rely on the 8amp, builtin, 1-stage charger on the Hondas or whatever brand. Much better on your
battery and a much faster charge if you have really brought it down low. Xantrex makes one that is switchable between a 2, 20 or 40 amp charging rate.
Three stage and will also equalize the cells. Under 100.00 and very compact, even the cabling is housed in internal compartments.Bob and Susan - 11-14-2006 at 04:44 PM

well...EVERY part inside my inverter is "made in china"
i was there for the replacement of several of the computer boards
Xantrex was Trace and these are made in china.
"Xantrex already manufactures many of its products in China and has also established positive ongoing relationships in the region. The company has
signed up dealers such as Beijing Corona and JK Energy, both of which are associated with government entities. By conducting product assembly and
creating a dealer network in China, Xantrex is better able to leverage its outsourced manufacturing."
