Skipjack Joe - 10-30-2006 at 08:23 AM

Bajagrouper, you need to get your spider picture down to 50K bytes or less. Otherwise it won't post on this website.

bajagrouper - 10-30-2006 at 09:24 AM

ha ha ha LOL, ok i'm not as computer savvy as I should be but I will try again, click the link and tell me what you think...

Bajalero - 10-30-2006 at 12:04 PM

My guess would be a crab spider of some sort .

Nice pic, grouper, wher did you take it?

FARASHA - 10-30-2006 at 12:28 PM

I have been browsing the net for the last 3 hours, couldn't find it. So lets see if the experts are doing better!!

bajagrouper - 10-30-2006 at 12:31 PM

Hola, I spotted this guy in the town of Rincon de Guayabitos,Nayarit...across the gulf form most of you guys, I was experimenting with my new camera with the macro lens, remember this spider is less than an inch across, it blew me away when I enlarged the photo to see the colors and detail... thanks, rick

Bruce R Leech - 10-30-2006 at 12:45 PM

Bruce R Leech - 10-30-2006 at 12:47 PM

Neal Johns - 10-30-2006 at 01:16 PM

I know the answer!

I have seen this many times: It is Marian when I bring one of my WiW's around! The green face tipped me off.

Great photo, Bajagrouper.

Taco de Baja - 10-30-2006 at 01:42 PM

Did not see it here at Spidezrule.con, but it probably is someplace. I did not look too long....
Enough spiders there to give even spider lovers the willies

Looks like the pic could be posted on this site for ID too

I agree iwith bajalero, it looks like a crab spider, or maybe a jumping spide or some kind.....

Wiles - 10-30-2006 at 02:07 PM

People who study insects are called entomologists.

People who study spiders are called araneologists.

Spiders are not insects, they are arthropods.

Other arthropods you are familiar with are:

......scorpions, lobsters and crabs to name a few....

Grouper, Rincon De Guayabitos: I've been there and all up and down the coast of Nayarit. Beautiful places. Have you been to Lo De Marcos? Theres a secluded beach there called los venados. It's one of my favorite places to cast off the rocks for jacks. In the area, not sure exactly where, is where they filmed "Predator"

jimgrms - 10-30-2006 at 02:48 PM

It is a cool looking spider , much better looking tha the ones i see when i drink to muck tokillya :bounce::lol::spingrin:

Bajalero - 10-30-2006 at 03:01 PM

Wiles is correct.

Lobster is just a spider that lives in sea water.

I've heard lobster tastes like tarantula -just not quite as hairy :barf:

bancoduo - 10-30-2006 at 03:31 PM

This is a very small Lobster that hangs out in some peoples hair. yummy yummy!:wow:

tehag - 10-30-2006 at 04:06 PM

Insects are indeed arthropods, as are spiders, lobsters, et al. Arthropod means jointed foot.

Bruce R Leech - 10-30-2006 at 05:10 PM

spiders are Arachnids

WHEW! Now that we have THAT cleared up, what's the name of that darn spider!

(I'm still waiting for word from the county entomologist, as I don't know any araneologists.)

spider

tehag - 10-30-2006 at 07:24 PM

Arachnids are arthropods.

Bruce R Leech - 10-30-2006 at 07:29 PM

I have spent hours looking for that spider and haven't come up with anything.

you should have put it in a bottle and saved it. Maybe we could name it after you.:light:

I am unable to identify the species of spider you posted as a photo. However, the two sets of extended front legs have probably evolved to form a basket or cradle to catch other insects - like dragonflies.

FARASHA - 10-31-2006 at 12:58 PM

HM - we could make bets on
A) is it a Crabspider
B) a Gardenspider
C) DaddyLONGLEG kind
D) Bananna Spider
E) a sort of green LYNX Spider
F) ..??any other ideas??
The wait makes me ichty !

marv sherrill - 10-31-2006 at 04:32 PM

All spiders and insects are arthropods, spiders are arachnids, and arachnologists study them, other arachnids are solpugids, ticks, mites, scorpions. Just to clarify-- it is still a really, cool spider

Ok can I add this one to the mix??

vgabndo - 11-1-2006 at 04:39 PM

Fuzzy photo, but it was about 1 1/2" across. The thing by his butt is not part of him. I decided not to move it before taking his picture! December in Baja Sur.

FARASHA - 11-2-2006 at 01:12 AM

FARASHA - 11-3-2006 at 03:09 PM

SO, STILL NOTHING ABOUT THIS SPIDER ?? Not even the experts came up with something?. :?: Maybe you discovered a NEW species, then you should really NAME it Grouper!

SiReNiTa - 11-5-2006 at 07:35 PM

um...are you serious no one can tell what that yuckey greenthing is??? aaaaargghhhhhh my mom is in awe that i am actually looking at the pictures...arachnofobia...nasty thing to have when you live in a place owned by spiders huh...

Interesting

Bajalero - 11-5-2006 at 07:59 PM

" nasty thing to have when you live in a place owned by spiders"

Thats funny!

You claim to have arachniphobia yet live in Baja. I've never seen so many interesting spiders as there are there so i have to wonder how you cope.

And spiders only make up a small portion of the bugs ( most of which bite like heck) that are a dailly part of life not to mention the flies):lol::lol:
