A major milestone in Baja tourism history; Hotel Presidente, after years of mismanagement, many episodes of unfortunate timing, half a dozen name
changes, and several attempts at variations on the business model is coming down. To have seen it go up and now come down feels to me kinda like
outliving one of my kids; odd, unfair, somehow vaguely wrong. Ahh, progress. Of course, that's what I was groaning when it went up.

They have changed names of these 'Presidente' Hotels so often, it is hard to say. I can remember at least 6 .. or is it 7...all in Baja. One in

They used to be here and there throughout Baja. Nice places, fully staffed and most often empty. Always made me wonder since it is a method of the
cartels to wash money by owning hotels that are always empty but never show a vacancy on the books.....the Oasis, just north of Rosarito comes to
mind.

When the pavement first opened, they were.....now they are La Pintas, etc.

I think I must have stayed there durring each incarnation.... this is sad. I enjoyed the place, it was nicely laid out and for the last 15 years
nicely grown in. My wife, Kim, stayed there for years while flying charters down from Palomar airport in the 80's. I'v even gone out latley, while
they were still open and snuck in for a beer or two. Never forget the time I was with a group fishermen checking in, walked to the pool, and lo and
behold.... well there were, there were, well there was a swinger group there . One fine young lady had new equipment she was sooooo proud of. In a

My wife and I stayed there about 12 years ago for three nights when it was called the "Diamond Eden". We had a great time. We arrived by truck and
were the first ones there because most of the tourists that stay there arrive by plane. It was strange to be just about the only ones there enjoying
the place for a few hours before anyone else. Then all of a sudden hoards of people arrived and the party began! We really had a good time, as this
was kind of a break for us camping all up and down Baja in our little tent and in the back of our old truck.
Things sure have changed since then in that area.

this was the first place in Baja that my wife ever saw. our room - in the clothes on portion -looked out over the clothes off beach and hot tub. it
was quite a show and we had a great time. Still keep in touch with an old guy whose wife was dying in CA and he got a few days off from her care
courtesy of thier kids. The experience allowed me to insist that we continue to visit Baja and we now own property in La Paz. good memories.

Hotel El Presidente.
I just remembered when I first got interested in TV in Baja. It was when I stayed at this hotel when it was first the El Presidente...very new then.
Winter of 1978 or 1979. The hotel had satellite TV in each room and that made up my mind to get one too...the big old C-band type dish. I have
changed a few dishes since then!
Also met lots of other Baja acquaintances, Mexicanos and Americanos, at that hotel back then..it was quite the gathering place. Can't repeat any of
