De nada.

A lot depends on what you drive and how you drive. If in a motorhome or towing, a lot longer. I do the drive in 8 hours easy (including stops) in my Tacoma. Usually we will do the 4 hour drive from the border to Cielito Lindo/Gypsy's in the afternoon & evening if on a Friday. Then the 4 hours from there to Bahia the next morning (after Laura's breakfast burritos). Top off gas at El Rosario, by the way.

I love that route

frizkie - 12-21-2003 at 12:51 PM

Thanx David!!
I love the sounds of that plan. I drive a 4x4 Mazda pick up (red) with a pop top camper, and I clip along at a pretty good pace, so that route you mentioned sounds numero uno to me. I'd hate to miss Gypsy's. And those breakfast burritos! Yup, I'll gas up at El Rosario too. The boyz at the BOLA turn off are too expensive, anyways.

Hey frizkie! I am trying real hard to make a trip to Bahia de L.A. possible. This is a lean time in my business and a recent unexpected incident is messing things up. However, we NEED Baja to heal our wounds of civilization, right? A camping trip is the least expensive type of vacation, and that's why I can do those, a lot!

I will look for your red Mazda/popup (with BC plates?) and you look for my gold Toyota with Viva Baja (and other stickers). I will be (if we go) at Camp Gecko tent camping with the other Baja Nomads going (when not on a lost mission hunt or other desert exploration!).

I think we can expect to see 4Baja, Bedman, the Humfreville's, Marla, burritomama, Edie H., Bo, David A & Yvonne, Paulina & Dern & Cody (Casa P,D & C),etc. Perhaps the new parents (El Camote, Frank O) if the babies and mamas are ready?

I wonder if Capt. Mike will land at Gecko International (Munoz/BLX South)? Otherwise, we will play taxi and bring him down from the paved strip north of town, if he drops by.

Who else wants to bring in the New Year in L.A. Bay?

TMW - 12-22-2003 at 06:43 AM

David, I'll try and make it so I can finally meet some of the Baja lovers. If all goes well I'll be in a white Toyota 4x4.

Leaving today...white Chevy pickup w/leer shell...4x4....sisters surfing and BOLA fishing at La Gringa...

tryin' for BOLA New Years

frizkie - 12-22-2003 at 08:53 PM

If I can make it from the Canadian/US border North to the US/Mexican border South in four days, I will be in BOLA for New Years. YEEEE!!! HAAA!!!
It would be a fantastic way to bring in 2004 by meeting all you folks on this board.
I'm giving it my best shot, for sure!!!
In the mean time ...FELIZ NAVIDAD!!!!!
Have a good one everybody!!!!!!!:spingrin::tumble:

marla - 12-23-2003 at 05:19 PM

Add from Seattle to Victoria BC.....to your trip plan:

I leave usually about 9 something AM.....truck hard for 12hrs. to get south of Sacremento....I don't what to deal with the commuter traffic in the AM...spend the night at usually at Motel 6...leave between 7 and 9....if I'm stopping at Rancho Humfreville I usually arrive about 2PM (spend the night there)...if not waiting to hook up with them I keep going to San Yisidro (2 1/2 hrs. past ,I have my Moho stored there...(spend the night) from there it is an easy 8 to 8 1/2 hrs. to BOLA.......All told, it's about a 36hr. run...dedending on how you want to break it up (from Seattle)......Hope this helps.....and Happy Driving!

burritomama - 12-26-2003 at 05:38 PM

We leave tomorrow -- the 27th -- probably won't roll into BOLA until the 29 or 30th - ah travels witha 20 month old - but we'll stay until the 6th.

See some of you there.

Mike Humfreville - 12-26-2003 at 06:41 PM

We put off our departure date to recover from the Christmas rush. We will leave Ventura on the 28th and arriving at Gecko on the 29th. Staying until the 4th (or longer).

Drive safely, yall, and take care.

timperkins - 12-29-2003 at 10:14 PM

Just an FYI on the road conditions...

We were down there last Feb and the road after the BOLA junction was awesome! Freshly blacktopped road - nice and wide. We were rolling down the road at almost 60 mph when it dropped us off onto pothole hell! I hit the brakes so hard I almost spilled my Pacifico, er, I mean my coffee!

So have fun but watch out for that road!

Tim

Leaving Before Sunrise, Tue.

David K - 12-29-2003 at 10:50 PM

The Toyota is all loaded up, and I am ready to shut down! Here is my estimate times and route to Bahia de los Angeles:

Oceanside 4:30am

Calexico 7:00am

San Felipe 9:30am

Gonzaga Bay 12:30pm

Cocos Crn. 1:00pm

Laguna Chapala 1:30pm

Camp Gecko 3:30pm

This is 2 hours longer (with 100 dirt miles) than going all the way on Highway One, but "I just love driving in Baja"!!!

Look for a possible report via Doc's pc or the Internet service in Bahia. Otherwise, I will report to you all after I get back Sunday night...

?Viva Baja y Feliz Ano Nuevo!
