David K's Viva Baja Cactus 2006 Report (44 photos)

David K - 11-9-2006 at 09:18 AM

We met at a parking lot in San Ysidro where Antonio had arranged a special area for us to park together in.

Here is Max Kurillo who co-wrote 'California's El Camino Real' published by Sunbelt, talking with Alice and 'AwfulArt'.

On to the Tijuana Beer Brewery for the next tour... One of the brewmasters explained the process and then gave us samples, right out of the vat.

Sylvia was next to get busted!!!

It was all in fun... the officers were part of our police escort arranged by Antonio (BajaCactus) so we 'Baja Nomads' could travel quickly across town... V.I.P. stuff!

Next stop was the Police Command and Control Center where a wall of live video images from cameras all around the city watch for trouble. They can zoom in on what is in somebody's hand from cameras hundreds of feet away.

The future of crime fighting is here... in Tijuana!

Another surprise was that instead of 'one' drink with the price of dinner, we had 'all you can drink' beer and margaritas! Way to go Antonio!! Awfulart (wearing hat) is across from Max Kurillo... sitting past Art in the striped and in the yellow shirt was 'BajaAndBack' from Canada who joined our group at the restaurant, as did jeans and her mom.

I should have invited everyone to the Quinceanera on 8th near Revoluccion. The bus would have had room to park, the beverages were free, and so was the food! :light:

David K - 11-11-2006 at 09:53 AM

I think most of us were pretty worn out after dinner, but thanks for the thought Ken... (must be nice to be young-er)!;D

It was a wonderful day, and it was our own 'BajaCactus' who did most of the work in making it a wonderful day... It was like a handoff from me to him for running great Baja Nomad group events. Young blood... and Antonio has enegy!:biggrin::cool:

Ken Cooke - 4-23-2011 at 06:26 AM

I feel that Antonio did a great job. I hope to visit with him again either in Tijuana or El Rosario.
