Well, it finally happened....

M - 11-11-2006 at 02:23 PM

I have been asked many times if I get hastled alot at the airport because of all the metal in my body. Usually not too much of a problem, they just pull me off to the side and go over me pretty good with the metal detector wands. Not THIS time....LOLOL. I got pulled over to 'secondary' as expected, but then to my shock, a large scarry woman came out from a side room and with a serious as a heart attack look on her face said, "Lady, would you follow me please?" 2 other ladies materialized out of nowhere, one had her hand on her gun as they followed me into a private room. I was scarred to death! The next words floored me. "would you remove your clothes and place them on the table please?". WHAT?!?!?!?
I started protesting, asking what was going on, blustering and flustering and was told "just shut up and do as you were told please". Okay dokey. As I stood there buck naked, wondering who was watching from behind a 2 way mirror, the gals relaxed a bit and told me for some reason, the computer had randomly chosen my name for an extensive search. Has anybody ever heard of such a thing? I get asked by people if I carry those medical joint replacement cards, and I don't simply because they are worthless. I get checked in secondary with or without them, but I have NEVER heard of such a thing as 'randomly being chosen' for such an extensive, ahem, embarrasing search. Ah well, I got over it, but is this normal security?
M
P.S. My father is doing well now, THANK YOU GOD!

DENNIS - 11-11-2006 at 02:39 PM

These days, the power trip exceeds its bounds too often, being blamed on either the computer or homeland security. After all, there are 300 million terrorists in the United States and it is up to these people to establish who isn't. You're lucky, being the terrorist that you surely are, that they weren't prompted by the computer to do a body cavity search. They probably would have enjoyed that.
Oh well, because of your humiliation, the U.S. is a safer place, Im sure.

FARASHA - 11-11-2006 at 02:46 PM

 Join the club, happened to me WAY back in Munich, was in Transit, on my way back Home from near east country !
Second time happened couple years ago in Tel Aviv on Departure. Mom had finaly to testify I'm her daughter!:lol:

Skeet/Loreto - 11-11-2006 at 02:51 PM

M- I too have some problems if I wear my Brace under my Pants.

Also I have to insist that they provide a Chair to be used when taking off and putting on my shoes. If they Hesitate i stand in front of everyone and refuse to move, or I get very Loud and start a Scene. I turned down a Request to go into Their little room to pull down my Pants to take off the Brace- I shucked them off in front of everyone{had my Shorts on so no Danger of exposure.}

With Nancy in Charge, they will probably pass a Law that you can arrive Naked and put your Clothes on after going through the Dectector!!!

You know about those San Francisco People who Ride Motorcycles Neckid on the Streets of San Francisco.

Seriously I am sure God will Bless you Father, my Prayers for Him.

I'm certainly happy that the cowboy and his posse are taking the liberty to take your liberty and strip you of your civil rights by stripping you in the name of Homeland Security, packin' all that metal.

I certainly can sleep better at night...not because I feel safer, but the imagery is better than counting sheep. Just keep the "big scarry woman out of my dream, OK? I surely don't want to follow her anywhere.:O:no:

toneart - 11-11-2006 at 04:15 PM

Naturally you were flying in from Baja (just to keep this string in General Baja Discussion). Or was that au naturel you were flying in from Baja? ;)

You must be getting younger, not older.
I hope I'm never behind your little show !!

Diver. It is a Mite Funny when a 75 year old Codger starts a Row! Everybody thinks its funny in Texas, everybody thinks its Terrible in California. I will even start Hollaring about my very low Soc. Sec. Check, the High Cost of Prescriptions, even shed a Tear or Two.

I heard one Security say" Let that old Coot through, He is as Crazy as a Bed Bug"!!!

I just imagined THAT, I would surely wet my pants while laughing my socks off, to have to see this at my next flight.!!

longlegsinlapaz - 11-12-2006 at 08:46 AM

All you naysayers out there complaining about increased security for the flying public of all nationalities ever stop to think about WHY it's happening? Granted, some of the tactics used could be refined, but I'd much rather have Skeet cause a scene & drop his drawers in line in front of me (actually, I'd really prefer that Skeet quietly go to the little room with the scary people with guns, rather than cause a scene & potentially cause all the people in line behind him to miss their flights, or cause flight delays, which could cause delays across the country!)....than the possible alternatives. M's experience would truly cause me some major embarrassment, but like her, I'd live through it....if no attempt was made to verify what was setting off the alarms, then the possibility that M's implants or Skeet's brace were explosive devices could severely ruin the day for a helluva lotta people....permanently! I appreciate the logic behind the increased security checks, although I think the methods could be refined! Remember, it's not just YOU being treated in the this manner; any & everyone who gets on a plane is subject to the same scrutiny. In the big scheme of things, I feel it's a necessary inconvenience....considering the potential alternatives! :bounce: Will it take witnessing them calling in the bomb squad for the little old lady in line in front of us with explosives strapped to her chest under her underwire bras to get us to appreciate the need for these personal invasions? :?:

Not to worry, M. That was me on the other side of the mirrow! Your secrets are safe.

Skeet/Loreto - 11-12-2006 at 02:21 PM

Longer legs:
Just having a little fun!

I accept all of the Security, knowing that it is necessary and needed in this day and age. I would not get on a plane without it!
Also understanding that we need more intrusive methods to Tap Phone lines and conversations of the Terrorists already here in this Country.
I learned many years ago that the More Security you have the less Liberty you will have.

Still think it would be much more interesting if everyone shipped their Clothes to the Airport the Day before their Departure, then arrived Neckid and barefooted for the Screening!!

toneart - 11-12-2006 at 02:56 PM

LongLegs,

I actually agree with you. There is the need for competent security personnel to screen potential bombers and not let them board an aircraft. Part of the problem is that some of the security do not have adequate discretionary judgment. The issue is further muddied by politics. I don't like the politics of fear. I obviously have trust issues in this area.

We are all trying to sort out how much liberty we have to give up in the name of security. We have to each look within ourselves and decide how much we let fear run over us and our lives and how much zealous enforcement is justified. Sometimes my cynicism causes me to allow a little levity to creep into my psyche. That is not always well received by everyone when I let it out, but hey, it makes me feel better.;)

windgrrl - 11-14-2006 at 09:22 PM

I live in a very small town (60,000) and was "patted down" by airport security x2 in one week. Security also removed 2 single serving tetra packs of milk out of my carry on because they were greater than 90 ml. Yup - it's random (I didn't set off the metal alrm) and the security staff said they have a quota!

Geeze M

Sharksbaja - 11-14-2006 at 09:34 PM

Ya gotta stop wearin' that Burqa when traveling.

kellychapman - 11-15-2006 at 10:59 AM

what would happen if we all showed up naked ......just think how little time we would have to spend in line. I too believe in security, but if I have to remove my clothes then why not in front of everyone....it would make them think twice about who has to get naked.....or we could just wear "raincoats" and flash them......if I used all my names I for sure would be pulled out of the line....lol....I am just wearing a "raincoat" and spike heels just to be ready next trip...
.....and since I have a tatoo on my ass that says "kiss this" over a set of lips at least they will get the point.....

Taco de Baja - 11-15-2006 at 02:11 PM

A little over a year ago my sweet 14 year-old neice was pulled aside for the random strip search. Of course her mom accompanied her into the little room.
What a joke.

[Edited on 11-15-2006 by Taco de Baja]

I think I know the answer

thebajarunner - 11-15-2006 at 02:19 PM

O.K.
First of all, anyone named "M" is clearly gonna attract attention.
And second, speaking of attention, the topic that keeps popping up (so to speak) in your posts is your proclivity for appearing "buck naked" (your words, not mine) on numerous and various occasions.
Work on it, girl!!!

QuePasaBaja - 11-15-2006 at 04:09 PM

Getting a note on a prescription pad from your doctor, will help stop some of this. But it WONT prevent it.

Sorry to hear that happened.

turtleandtoad - 11-15-2006 at 05:05 PM

I used to get singled out all the time at both borders when I used my passport for ID.

Finally, a border guard clued me in. My passport has stamps from about 4 or 5 mid-east countries! He recommended that I keep the passport in my pocket and just show them my Retired Military ID. So far it's working, I haven't been pulled aside since.

And by the time I have to show a passport, I'll have a new one.

What countries you are talking about?
Mine is basically full with egyptian stamps and visas, plus other near/middle/far east stamps. That hadn't attracted anyone so far, on my ways IN/OUT of US or Mexico.

Mine has Saudi Arabia, Yeman, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Oman, and Kuwait, to name a few It also has India, Pakistan, Sri Lanki, Russia and Singapore but I don't think that's what does it. I'm not sure which one seems to trigger the response; or maybe it's just my looks. But I do know that the U.S and Canadians would sometimes pull me aside for further questions until I started using my military ID.

FARASHA - 11-16-2006 at 11:52 AM

HM, don't know, maybe being a female, wouldn't make it sooo interesting for them??
Or maybe my looks (petit blonde) is UN-SUSPICIOUS :saint:

But your variety of stamps does make it VERY suspicious. I guess.

kellychapman - 11-16-2006 at 12:25 PM

I wish I had that varity of stamps on my passport.....looks like full time rv'ing is a very good thing. I am envious to say the least and would put up with strip and search just for the trips......life is good....but would be very upset if they searched my young neice.....good for mom making sure she stayed close...

turtleandtoad - 11-16-2006 at 01:06 PM

Actually, almost all of my stamps came from my work with the Navy's of those countries before I retired.

I worked for an international Naval Architect/Marine Engineering firm. And I think they hired me because of my familiarity with those countries from my military career.

In a lot of those countries, a petit blonde gets a LOT of attention!

kellychapman - 11-17-2006 at 10:46 AM

In all countries actually...being one myself.... I see your current location is West Yellowstone? Did you happen to go by the "Wild Rose Ranch"....at least that was the name of it when my idiot ex-husband purchased it. I understand the owners (we won't go into them) who now run it have made a GREAT many change??? My ex purchased it (with money he did not have to throw away) because zane grey wrote novels there and it was a battlefield for omg.....can't remember the name of the battle...oh well....just curious....been a few years ago....

FARASHA - 11-17-2006 at 01:01 PM

 oh yeah! nothing as good as a BODYCHECK !

Yeah, I saw the roadsign, but that's about all I know. And I'm no longer in West Yellowstone (I'll have to check that link, I thought I'd changed it), way to cold up there this time of year. I'm currently in Phoenix. Todays Weather; 84 and clear.
